Our Annual Awards Celebration has always been one of the most meaningful events on the Centre for Dreams calendar. It’s an opportunity to recognize the incredible achievements of our members and the dedicated community partners who continue to walk alongside us in supporting their journeys.
 
From heartfelt moments on stage to celebrations shared with friends, families, staff, and supporters, each year this special evening brings our entire community together to honour growth, commitment, and the power of inclusion.
 
For 35 years, this night has been about more than recognition. It’s been about celebrating the people who make the Centre for Dreams what it is today and those who help our members reach their goals each and every day.

More space, more impact. That has been part of the Centre for Dreams story from the very beginning. 🏡✨

As our program grew and more members joined, so did the need for more room and more opportunities. What started in our founder’s family home soon expanded to a unit in Markville Mall, then to Main Street Markham, and eventually to our McCowan locations. Each space served its purpose at the right time and helped shape the program into what it is today. 📍

Every move meant more members supported, more programs offered, and more chances for individuals to learn, connect, and build skills. Growth did not just change our address. It expanded our impact. 💙

Where Community Turned into Impact 💙🧡💜
 
Over the past 35 years, the Centre for Dreams has brought the community together through creative, heartfelt events that did more than raise dollars. They built connection, awareness, and opportunity. From seasonal campaigns and signature events to friendly competitions and community driven challenges, each event invited people to be part of something bigger.
 
What makes these moments special is not just the creativity behind them, but the heart behind them. Supporters, families, partners, and neighbours showed up, joined in, and helped turn good ideas into real impact for our members.
 
Every ticket purchased, every pledge made, and every event attended helped us move closer to a more inclusive community where individuals with developmental disabilities can learn, grow, and belong.
 
And we are just getting started.

Over the past 35 years, countless staff members have walked through the doors of the Centre for Dreams. Each one has played a part in shaping who we are today. Their time, care, and commitment helped build a program rooted in respect, opportunity, and belonging.
 
Together, they’ve supported our members in learning new skills, building confidence, and working toward personal goals. The legacy they helped create continues to guide us as we provide meaningful, comprehensive support to every member who calls the Centre for Dreams home.

Throwback to 1991 🌱 Community rooted from the start
 
From the very beginning, The Centre for Dreams believed that our members belong out in the community, not on the sidelines. Early on, being visible, involved, and connected locally was part of everyday life. Whether out in the neighbourhood or engaging with community partners, our members were encouraged to be active participants in the world around them.
 
Those early moments planted the seeds for what would later become our Live Beyond the Label philosophy. A belief that people should be seen for who they are, not defined by limitations, and supported to take up space in their community with confidence and pride.

That commitment remains just as strong today, woven into everything we do. 💙🧡💜

Throwback to 1991 💭 1991 Time Capsule
 
So much has changed since 1991. Markham has grown, neighborhoods have expanded, and the world around us looks very different than it did when The Centre for Dreams first opened its doors. What was once a much smaller community has become the vibrant, diverse city we know today.
 
Just like Markham the Centre for Dreams has evolved too. Our programs, spaces, and reach have grown alongside the community, adapting to new ideas, new needs, and new possibilities. While the world has changed in many ways, our commitment to inclusion, opportunity, and belonging has remained constant.
 
Looking back reminds us how far we’ve come and how important it is to keep growing together. 💙

Proud to be the first organization in Canada 🇨🇦 to take part in the Kibu platform! Kibu is a digital platform and on demand library of lessons and interactive features specifically for individuals living with intellectual and developmental disabilities aiming to increase independence. We look forward to our programs taking part in the exciting platform moving forward.

The Centre for Dreams creates space for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to learn, grow, and define success on their own terms. Through adult day programs, youth services, and community-centered experiences, their work is grounded in dignity, creativity, and possibility.

Early members had a place where they could learn, be themselves, and grow in a supportive and welcoming environment.
 
That feeling of love and belonging was woven into the fabric of the program from day one, and it’s a feeling that still lives on in our modern-day programs. While our spaces and offerings have grown, the heart behind Dreams remains the same, creating a place where everyone feels at home.
