A special visitor trotted up to our Mayerthorpe home – literally! 🐴

Residents were treated to a surprise visit from the beautiful Kova and their reactions were pure joy! Warm smiles, gentle pets and an afternoon of reminiscing on animals throughout their lives had Extendicare Mayerthorpe residents in great spirits.

This spring’s was deeply personal to the Extendicare Maple View community. With family ties to the cause and many residents living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, participating in the annual fundraising walk and roll came naturally to their community.

Raising more than $3000 to support the Alzheimer Society Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District, Maple View has made significant contributions to the programs and services offered in their community.

One team member, Brittany, has a personal connection to the cause as her late grandmother, who was a resident at Extendicare Maple View, lived with Alzheimer’s. Read Brittany’s story here: https://ow.ly/Mwy050WuIqa

We continue to highlight our residents and team members’ support for this year’s . On the day of their event in May, even with rainy spring weather, the community at Extendicare Stoneridge Manor showed up in a big way raising more than $1600 to support the Alzheimer Society Lanark Leeds Grenville's dementia programs in the Ottawa-area.

Residents, families and team members made their way through the neighbourhood at their own pace, greeted with warm smiles and homemade treats at the finish.

We were pleased to host Alberta’s Commissioner of Assisted Living and Continuing Care, Cynthia Farmer, at Extendicare Michener Hill in Red Deer last week.

Director of Care Marie Rusk and Regional Director of Operations Michael Bittante had the opportunity to tour the Commissioner through the home and talk about the priorities that matter to our teams, our residents and the broader sector.

Earlier this month, Extendicare CEO, Dr. Michael Guerriere, travelled to Alberta to meet with government and sector partners. While in Alberta, he visited three southern Alberta Extendicare homes to speak with team members, residents and leadership and learn more about their Extendicare experience. Extendicare Medex hosted their own Walk for Alzheimer’s in the Ottawa area where residents, team members and families came together to walk, roll and fundraise for a good cause. This spring the home community raised more than $800 to support the Alzheimer Society of Ottawa Renfrew and Alzheimer Society of Canada The community was all smiles and loved the guest appearance from the Medex mascot!

Residents at Extendicare Limestone Ridge in Kingston ON got creative personalizing their walkers and wheelchairs with custom "license plates" - a fun way to show off some personality while making sure everyone knows which wheels are theirs.

Flashback Friday! Across the country, our homes were filled with Canada Day fun. Residents and team members at Extendicare Mayerthorpe in Alberta and Extendicare Timmins in Ontario showed off their Canadian pride with red and white decor, treats and accessories. Happy birthday, Canada! And a big thank you to all of the activity teams who put together these festivities for Extendicare residents.

A look back at Extendicare McGarrell Place in London, Ontario when the home community got active for a good cause, walking and rolling in support of the Alzheimer Society Southwest Partners. Residents enjoyed a stroll through the neighbourhood, along with games and information hosted by local Alzheimer Society representatives at this meaningful springtime event.

Residents at Extendicare Limestone Ridge, supported by team members, got busy sprucing up the home’s interior and exterior spaces. The group effort paid off with beautiful flowers and plants for residents, team members and guests to enjoy this summer. Gardening is a popular activity that provides residents with low-impact physical activity, mental stimulation, and connection, bringing people together to socialize in the fresh air.

In Sudbury, Extendicare homes are turning up the heat to celebrate summer! Countryside hosted a bustling summer carnival, bringing together residents, team members, families and the local community for a fun-filled day. The event featured live music, delicious poutine, cotton candy, axe-throwing and face painting. Plus, residents had the chance to drench a few brave leaders with a water bucket dump. It was a heartwarming reminder that age is just a number and fun has no limits.
