Mullein/Wasikayk-łá/Nookaadiziiganzh Medicine for grief, guidance, Ancestral connection 💚

Fuzzy Mullein. They’re a close Plant kin & one of my little one’s first words.

They are usually a biennial Plant; the first year they grow this beautiful rosette close to the ground. The 2nd year they shoot up their stalk & flower+seed.

Often considered a “lung herb,” though, we know that Plants are so multi-faceted.

Yes, they may be supportive for respiratory conditions. Ensuring to filter infusions as their ‘hairs’ can irritate mucosa. They are slightly demulcent yet also astringent & anti-inflammatory. Making them supportive for dry/chronic coughs/irritations. They may also help to dispel & bring up mucous.

I have worked with them for other inflammatory conditions as well ~ a poultice with fresh Marshmallow leaf for chronic Mastitis. With Comfrey for a shattered finger.

In one RCT, topical Mullein helped episiotomy healing after birth, highlighting their wound healing abilities.

Though some of my fave aspects of their Medicine are their ability to guide... to me they’ve always felt like they are deeply connected w the Ancestors. A conduit for their wisdom & healing. Paired w the Lung, grief.

They are worked with as ‘candles,’ their bright yellow flowers bursting from their tall stalk resembles a torch, light. I craft them each year at this time.

I held a Plant Medicine Ceremony w them a few years back. They shared a vision of me standing in the dark. Pitch black forest. New Moon. I wasn’t sure where to go...I was lost.

Mullein showed up & reminded me that I didn’t need to “see” the entire forest in order to be able to move, take action, to know my path. They help illuminate to take the next step. Moment by moment. Protecting.

Sometimes life can feel overwhelming, we may not know exactly what the future holds or looks like. What we can aim to do is align with each moment. Moment by moment walking our path, listening. In this way we can find our way through the dark, together ☀️

Anyone else feeling tired of humaning some days? Most days? Yet also feel the immense beauty, gratitude & love for humanity + being human too {and, I actually do love so many human kin & miss many too, the Plants & more than human kin just get us in a different way, 🌲🦌}

Feeling tender this week, kin. I'm sure many of you are too. Reminders that beauty is all around & within us, reminders that the Land, the Water, the Plants, hold us on the really hard days 🌸 Come back to them.

You will also experience various forms of working w Medicines {tincture, syrup, flower essence, etc} & learn about each. As we move with the Medicines we also may enter into a healing journey, as they hold us.

We are in a time where manipulation, {harmful} trickster energy, is high. A time where the noise, chaos & confusion is purposeful.

Discernment, embodied connection, quiet time with your own energy, Land, Spirit are vital to our overall well-being. To our mental & emotional health. To our perceptions.

Get quiet, kin. Get quiet enough to hear your well Ancestors, Spirit. Don’t let the external noise pull you away from yourself, your path, your Root.

We have more access than ever to information, to stories, to perspectives, communications. Let your nervous system catch up!! We aren’t used to this daily input from SO many sources.

It’s not a ‘bad’ thing, but it can be if we don’t spend time within ourselves, Spirit, the Land too. I know that can also be challenging. It can be uncomfortable, physically, spiritually, emotionally, to be with ourselves. To wade through the shadows & really look at ourselves, really FEEL!

And, we must do it anyway. Responsibilities feel like that sometimes ~ they aren’t always easy.

We each have a responsibility to remember our connection(s), our interwoven-ness. Our genetic codes intertwined with all of Creation. To ourselves, the Land, Water, Plants one another.

In this auspicious energy ~ may we spend some time deepening our ability to discern, to feel, to be in our own energy, to listen to our intuition + body.

May we prioritize connecting with inter species kin, the Land, Stone ones, Trees, listening. To one another & our communities. Making offerings. Deepening relationships. And remembering *how much wisdom* we carry in our blood & bones.

The Land is a beautiful teacher, healer, guide, kin 🌱🌻 Exploratory Herbal Mentorship doors opening Tues, September 23rd!! Equinox time 🦋

We will begin our journey together on the New Moon October 21st. Samhain energies 🌾 {all virtual, you can join from anywhere}

We will be working with 6 different Plant Medicines, I haven't shared them since 2022! Potent Medicines to hold us through Fall & into the Winter Solstice. Grief support, navigating big shifts + transitions, ancestral & nervous system Medicines 🧡

I really sit with the Plants & ask them to come through. This year I wasn't quite sure, but what came through is that these are the Plants we *need* vs the ones we may *want* to journey with. Meaning, I think there's a lot of potency here & those who are called will be extra resonant with these specific Plant kin.

I wouldn't be surprised if you're already feeling some of them.

On the Land, I remember who I am 🫐 Ililmúk (Blueberry) & Wíwnu (Huckleberry) picking
is one of my fave rituals marking late Summer into early Fall. Heading to the Mountain, making offerings while gathering berries. Purple stained fingers & a full belly from the Earth!

Remembering there is sweetness here too {needed, often}. Teaching my little one these ways. This is generational healing, true wealth.

There are so many memories, stories, medicines held within each Food, each Medicine we pick. They are woven in our Blood, Bones, who we are ~ tending to the Land, harvesting Foods, picking Medicines ~ it is really everything. It is remembering.

Our bodies actually release "joy" neurotransmitters when we pick berries {iykyk ;)} 🫐

Traditional foods tether us to the Earth. Spirit. Patience. Commitment. Pleasure. Joy.

Remembering who we are. They remind us that we belong, our responsibilities to Creation, the Earth. Knowing we are SO deeply loved by the Land.

On days where it is especially hard, these moments sustain me 🫐 The Land loves us & wants us back too, and so we keep going 🩵 Lots of love this Eclipse season, kin, go to the Land, give offerings to the Earth, xo

Late Summer Flowers, Goldenrod {Ezaawaabagonii} Medicine 🌼

They've been coming up so strongly, one of my closest kin 💚

They feel like late Summer energy embodied. When many of the other Plants & flowers begin to sleep, Goldenrod thrives. They are a late bloomer, reminding us to honour our rhythms & our unique pace. Our unique Medicine.

In blooming late they provide necessary food & nourishment for insects + bees 🐝 Reminders that we each have a role, our Medicine is needed here.

Just walking, or sitting, among them invites me to stop & breathe a little deeper. In awe of their beauty. This is also part of their Medicine as respiratory/lung support.

They are a decongestant & expectorant. And astringent. Helping to clear mucous & dry dampness. A reminder that sometimes the mucous is protective, so, balance here.

These qualities also offer support to the urinary tract, they have a special affinity with kidneys/bladder. I've often added them to UTI formulas.

Our Lungs hold grief, in TCM, while Kidneys remind us of our Ancestral connections. Goldenrod may help clear grief, esp generational, while strengthening our relationship with our well Ancestors. Strengthening their wisdom & Medicine as part of our blood, our essence 🌼

They've held me deeply in relieving fibro related pain, again, Ancestral support. A German word for them is, Unsegenkraut, curse herb. Helping to break curses.

They have a high amount of gallic & chlorogenic acid & may be supportive in blood sugar regulation when indicated.

I love them as poultices & in salves for wound healing. Anti inflammatory + antimicrobial. Supportive for Seasonal allergies as well. I esp love them in an herbal steam with other kin at the first sign of a cold! Or for chronic sinusitis.

Return to the Land {and return the Land} 💚🌿

Made these last night, some lightness in them ... but truly, returning to the Land, our Hearts, our bodies, is vital. In all ways.

"Get outside" may also be short for, take action in ways that align, call you. Show up. Remember why you, we, are here. Come back to the Land; to our Ancestral responsibilities & relationships.

Why do you think so many of our ceremonies are on the Land, or include Plant Medicines? They bring us back to ourselves, to our original instructions, why we chose to come here at this time. Remembering we are not alone, we care for each other.

The Land fortifies & strengthens us. Holds our grief, rage, alongside us as they feel it too. The Land, Plants, miss us too... they call for our return.

When we sever our connection to the Land, we sever our connection to ourselves, to Spirit, to Ancestors. To our bodies. We actually release dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin when we come back to the Land.... focus, love, connection, authentic joy + awe.

They want us to be disconnected, zoned out, tapped out. When we remember our connection to the Land, to our Hearts, the Plants, that we are the Land, we are Love, we remember our connection to ourselves & each other {human & more than human relatives}.

We also remember the beauty that exists here too🪞🌈 We strengthen & sustain our physical + spiritual bodies to keep going, attuned to Creation 💐 Lots of love this Moon day, in between Eclipses, kin, xo

Mugwort Magic ✨🌿 Eclipse Season Medicine ~ Dreaming, clearing, moving, visioning. Being 💚

For moving stuck & stagnant energies ~ moving through, clearing all that no longer aligns this Season. Making space. So that all that needs to be, has space to be.

Supporting Dreamtime, deepening into the Medicine our dreams may hold.

Dreaming connects us with our Ancestors, visits from loved ones. We may receive guidance, wisdom, answers we seek, downloads. Portals to our psyche, also to collective shifting 🕸️   They connect us to our cosmic consciousness, guides, Star kin & our Spirit.  Mugwort is ruled by Artemis, a diety of the Moon - holding those mysteries in their Medicine. They help us journey within ourselves to receive teachings & guidance on our Path. They also help with Dream Recall & Meditative states.

Mugwort is also a protector, calling in boundaries.

Mugwort has a beautiful silvery tone, shimmering in the Moonlight. They are a kin I love working with this time of year. Reminding us of the reflection of light of Grandelder Moon. A mirror to within.  Beautiful for use before ritual, Ceremony or before Bed. Set your intention for Dream time before you sleep - ask questions you may have, guidance, etc.

I also love them as an oil, esp during Moon time. Moving any stagnant energy that may be held as pain + tension in our bodies, wombs {creative energy centers}. Shedding. With trust, compassion & courage. Also that protection energy, heightening intuition while being protected.

They may help relax the body, as they are a nervine. Bringing ease. Calming anxiety. Supporting digestion & truly receiving nourishment into our bodies. Remembering we are worthy of receiving.

They may be worked with in various forms. As an oil, in tincture {in Vision + Spirit Xálish tincture}, bath, under pillow, as Moxa {TCM}, in foods + bitters & as smoke Medicine ✨

Less Artificial Intelligence, more Earth Intelligence. Heart Intelligence. Water, Creation Intelligence 🐚🦌💧

Maybe an unpopular opinion & I understand the varied applications of AI {possible advances + support, esp in the medical field}. And, it feels important.

Generative AI has many concerns for our wellbeing. I tend to be flexible in how we move, grow, expand. I have sat a lot w this, consciousness, how everything ultimately is part of Nature, as we are Nature.

And. We are seeing how AI can alter reality. We ask, what is real? (a good question, Plants, Mushrooms, Seaweed, Ceremony, Dreamtime are fave guides)

With AI use our brains will, are, shifting to become accustomed to a way of speaking, thinking vs. a more human way. I believe, truly, that it lacks Heart. I feel this so deeply & as a writer, an artist, maker, it feels harmful to our humanity. As well as art, creation...

People can take words, images, art, photos feed them to a machine & regenerate words, images, just different enough to be passed off as their own. But it’s not.

If it is meaning that these concepts, ideas are reaching more people isn’t that a good thing? Maybe, if embodied.

But I wonder about the energy? If it is stolen, taken, used for one’s self advancement, etc. It has that energy of c0lonization, taking, exploiting, without roots. Connection.

What I share comes from experience. From my Heart, Spirit, commitment & relationship to the Earth, the Plants, more than human & human kin.

It isn’t mine of course, as we are woven & when we are a conduit for source the knowledge, wisdom, art, belongs to us all. Yet. We know that knowledge, esp from racialized & Indigenous people, has been, IS, exploited, taken, watered down & taken out of context. Which further disconnects us from truth, from Land, from actual harmony, liberati0n.

There is also false info. AI writing herb books, making formulas, so gross & harmful. People with no experience or knowledge may pose as ‘teachers’ selling AI generated info. Which is dangerous.

Of course, there’s so much to this topic & nuance. I don’t use AI for my writing, for my courses, for my art 🩵 {cont ⬇️ - not moderating comments}
