Public Health Ontario has issued increased Influenza warning!
Symptoms to Watch for:
Symptoms often appear suddenly ("hit by a truck" feeling) and may be more severe than recent H1N1-dominant years.
High Fever: Often exceeding 38°C (100.4°F).
Severe Fatigue: Exhaustion that comes on very quickly.
Respiratory Issues: Dry cough and sore throat.
Body Aches: Intense muscle and joint pain.
Gastrointestinal Distress: Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea (more common in children).
Actionable Advice
Vaccination: It is not too late for the 2025 shot. It provides essential protection against H1N1 and Influenza B, which are also circulating.
Early Treatment: If symptoms appear, contact a doctor within 48 hours to discuss antiviral medications (like oseltamivir), which can reduce symptom duration and prevent complications.
Hygiene & Distancing: Wash hands frequently, wear a mask in crowded indoor spaces, and stay home if sick to avoid spreading the virus.
Monitor "Red Flags": Seek immediate medical attention for difficulty breathing, chest pain, confusion, persistent high fever, or signs of dehydration.
