Colorectal cancer is highly treatable, especially when discovered early. Which means there are more survivors than ever before.

After colorectal cancer treatment, including surgery and radiation, symptoms can often develop. Lower Anterior Resection Syndrome (LARS) is a collection of symptoms that can include:
šŸ’©Frequency or urgency of stools
šŸ’©Clustering of stools
šŸ’©Fecal incontinence
šŸ’©Constipation followed by numerous bowel movements
šŸ’©Increased gas or having trouble telling the difference between a bowel movement and passing gas
šŸ’©Re**al pain

Pelvic Physio can help!!
šŸ™Œ Pre-surgery strengthening before stoma reversal
šŸ™Œ Post-operative pelvic floor muscle training
šŸ™ŒBiofeedback therapy for strengthening and coordination
šŸ™Œ Re**al balloon training to improve sensation and coordination
šŸ™Œ Scar tissue desensitization and manual therapy
šŸ™Œ Lifestyle guidance to improve bowel habits, quality, and urge sensations

PSA - seek help from a trained pelvic floor physio who has experience working with bowel dysfunction, clients after cancer, and who understands LARS.

This International Women’s Day, our team came together to celebrate the theme .

Members of our team shared a photo inspired by this year’s campaign and a short reflection on what it means to them. Some spoke about what they give to gain — whether it’s time, mentorship, or support. Others shared words of motivation, their hopes for the future, and what gender equality means to them personally.

At Markham Pelvic Health, we are proud to have a 100% female clinical team dedicated to supporting, empowering, and advocating for women’s health every day.

Today we celebrate the strength, compassion, and leadership of women — in our clinic, in our community, and around the world.

Happy International Women’s Day šŸ’œ

I was recently on vacation and I was reminded of a great analogy of how chronic pain can successfully be treated.

Life is like a tide in the ocean. The tide never stops. Some days, on the good days, the tide is soft, gentle, and calm. This is when pain might be low. Stress might be minimal, there’s not a lot of worry in your life. It’s easy to float around.

Some days the waves are stronger. They threaten to pull you under. Your heart races, you might be anxious, and your pain may also be flared up. But the waves don’t stop.

A key part of learning to live with and overcome chronic pain is learning how to handle the big waves. Like the waves, life doesn’t stop. But the more you can watch the waves, learn how to move among them, and navigate the under tow, the easier and easier it will become.

The best thing about the waves? You aren’t navigating them alone. There are people to help you learn how to navigate them to stay afloat. People to help you build up your skillset to conquer those waves. And people cheering you on from the sidelines.

Not all lubricants are created equally!

Swipe through this post for some recommendations of different lubricant types, made to be compatible with intimate areas.

Research shows that ingredients like fragrance, parabens, glycerin, and certain antimicrobial preservatives can irritate the skin may disrupt the vaginal microbiome. These additives have been associated with increased irritation, inflammation, and changes in healthy Lactobacillus bacteria which play an important role in vaginal and pelvic health.

Pro tip: Look for lubricants that are fragrance-free, low-irritant, and formulated with sensitive tissues in mind.

Less ingredients = often more pelvic-floor friendly.

Your body deserves comfort, safety, and pleasure, without unnecessary irritation.
