May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚
This month is a powerful reminder to check in on ourselves and those around us. Mental health matters every day, but May gives us a chance to talk more openly, break the stigma, and share resources that can truly save lives.
What can you do to help someone in a mental health crisis?
Stay Calm & Present
Your calm energy can help de-escalate the situation. Listen without judgment and offer your full attention.
Ask Directly
Don’t be afraid to ask, “Are you thinking about hurting yourself?” It might feel uncomfortable, but it shows you care — and it could save a life.
Don’t Try to Fix It Alone
You’re not expected to have all the answers. Encourage professional help. Offer to call a crisis line or go with them to seek support.
Know the Signs
Sudden withdrawal, extreme mood changes, hopelessness, or talking about death are all red flags. Trust your gut — if something feels off, it probably is.
Have Resources Ready
Keep these handy:
📞 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline (US) – Free, 24/7, confidential support
📱 Text “HELLO” to 741741 – Crisis Text Line
🧠 Local mental health services or trusted therapists
Remember: You don’t have to be a mental health professional to make a difference. Sometimes, just being there — a listening ear, a gentle presence — is enough to help someone feel seen and supported.
Let’s keep showing up for each other. Let’s keep talking. Let’s keep fighting for a world where mental health is treated with the same urgency and compassion as physical health. 💙
