✨ EVERYONE—MEET IZZY ✨

Isabell Moore:

We’ve got a new set of hands at West of the Third Wellness and trust me… you’re going to want to get on her table.

Izzy is a first-year student at the Alberta College of Massage Therapy and she’s already bringing the kind of energy we love—calm, grounded, and genuinely here to help people feel better.

She’s from Meadow Lake (small town, strong hands—coincidence? I think not), and she’s especially passionate about:
• Relaxation massage
• Deep tissue work
• Creating a space where you can actually shut your brain off for once

Her story is one a lot of people will connect with—she found massage during a time when she needed it most, and now she’s turning that into something powerful for others. That kind of intention? You can feel it in the treatment.

Bonus:
Student pricing = you get great care at a reduced rate. Student appointments cannot be covered by your insurance.

She’ll be joining us starting May 12th and spots will go quick.

We are also running a Mothers Day Spa Special stay tuned for updates!

šŸ‘‰ Book with Izzy online or message West of the Third Wellness and come see what she’s all about.

Welcome to the team, Izzy—so glad to have you. šŸ¤

Beating the February Slump

• Eat Nutrient-Dense Foods

Why:
Low sunlight can affect serotonin and energy levels. Nutrients like B vitamins, omega-3s, iron, magnesium, and vitamin D support brain chemistry, nervous system regulation, and steady energy.
When we default to sugar-heavy comfort foods, we spike and crash — which makes mood dips worse. Protein and whole foods stabilize blood sugar, and stable blood sugar = stable mood.

• Get Outside — Even When It’s Cold

Why:
Natural light (even on cloudy days) helps regulate your circadian rhythm and supports serotonin production. Morning light exposure is especially powerful for improving mood and sleep quality.
Cold air and movement also stimulate circulation and can improve alertness. You don’t need a tropical beach — you need photons hitting your eyes.

• Sleep Like It’s Your Job

Why:
Winter naturally shifts our rhythm. Prioritizing consistent sleep supports hormone balance, emotional regulation, immune function, and recovery.
Irregular sleep disrupts melatonin timing, which can worsen fatigue and low mood. Think of winter as a nervous system recalibration season — not a productivity competition.

• Stay Social (Even If You Don’t Feel Like It)

Why:
Isolation amplifies low mood. Social interaction increases oxytocin and dopamine, which counteract the withdrawal pattern that often comes with seasonal dips.
You don’t need a party — one coffee date, team practice, or shared activity makes a difference.

When your jaw is unbalanced, your pelvis compensates.

The cascade:
1. Jaw imbalance pulls your head forward
2. Your neck muscles tighten to stabilize
3. Your spine compensates by shifting
4. Your pelvis tilts to maintain balance
5. One-sided back pain, hip tightness, or SI joint dysfunction appears

Why this happens:

Your jaw connects to deep neck muscles that attach directly to your spine. When jaw muscles stay tight, they create a chain of compensations that travel downward.

Your brain tries to keep you balanced. When your head shifts forward from jaw tension, your pelvis shifts backward.

This is why jaw clenchers often have chronic lower back issues that don't respond to hip stretches or core work.

The pattern:
Stressed → Clench jaw → Head forward → Pelvis compensates → Chronic pain

Most people treat the pelvis or lower back. They stretch their hips. They do core exercises. They get adjustments.

But the jaw tension hasn't changed. So the compensation pattern repeats.

Here's what actually breaks the cycle:

Your jaw has to stop clenching. Not through conscious relaxation that only works when you're thinking about it.

Automatically. Even while you sleep.

When jaw tension releases at the reflex level, your head repositions. Your spine decompresses. Your pelvis stops compensating.

The one-sided back pain disappears—not because you treated your back, but because the trigger stopped firing.

🌿Spring Hours 🌿
As you probably know I am a farmer- this means my time needs to be split between West of the Third Wellness and West of the Third Farm.

Starting in March we will be welcoming new baby calves into the world! As wonderful as that sounds, this is a stressful time of year. Weather and life are always an unknown variable. There might be times where I will have to move appointments around. I will do my very best to get everyone in when I can and give you as much notice as possible.

My hours will be reduced to three days a week starting in March. There will be times where I will extend hours or pick up days. I have set up an online waitlist you can join. You can also message me to be added to the waitlist!

To join the wait list online:

https://westofthethirdwellness.clinicsense.com/book/

1) Access the online booking portal through my website
2) Select the treatment type you are looking for
3) You will get to the calendar, at the bottom of the page there is a small writing in blue ā€œjoin waitlistā€
4) Follow the rest of the prompts

In between now and March I will be working as much as I can to get everyone in before my hours get reduced, there is lots of options currently available for you.

When there’s tension or misalignment in the jaw whether from clenching, TMJ dysfunction, or altered bite it changes head posture. Your body compensates to keep balance, often by tilting the pelvis or shifting your weight.

If your jaw is clenched, chances are your pelvic floor is either overactive or not firing properly. This affects posture, breath control, and how your nervous system regulates tension.

1. Jaw Clenching is a Postural Habit
Your jaw is wired to react under stress. The more it clenches, the more your head shifts forward, forcing your entire posture to compensate.

2. Tension Travels Down the Line
Stress in your jaw sends strain down your neck, spine, hips, and even your knees and feet. It never stays local.

3. Pelvic and Spinal Shifts Follow
When your jaw locks, your pelvis often tilts or rotates to restore balance. That can show up as back pain or one-sided hip tightness.

4. This Affects Every Step You Take
If the jaw is locked, breathing changes, balance is off, and your walking pattern breaks down. You feel it in your joints, but it starts at the top.

Most people don’t realize your jaw and pelvis are linked. Not just through posture or movement habits. Over time, these small changes can show up as chronic hip pain, pelvic instability, or forward head posture.
There’s also a functional link: the jaw and pelvic floor are both involved in how your body stabilizes the spine. They’re part of your core system.
