GBHS Meaford Hospital Auxiliary

*provides assistance to the hospital, its patients and staff
*informs the public as to the services provided by our hospital
*Fundraises for necessary capital equipment (not funded by the province). Activities included cooking hospital meals on weekends, providing produce and goods from home gardens and kitchens. Jams, jellies and preserves were made with members own sugar rations. Many hours were

spent making bedding, surgical supplies and mending. An evening group was formed in 1951 with 40 members, both groups continued to operate separately until 1962 when the two amalgamated. In 1952 The Meaford General Hospital opened, replacing the Cottage Hospital. Additions were built in 1959, 1963 and 1993. In 1999 the Meaford General Hospital, along with several other rural hospitals in Grey-Bruce County, amalgamated with The Owen Sound Hospital to become a part of Grey Bruce Health Services. The Auxiliary by-laws were amended to reflect the change, we were renamed Grey Bruce Health Services Meaford Auxiliary commonly referred to as GBHS Meaford Auxiliary. We are a registered charity and incorporated in 2002. The purpose of GBHS Meaford Auxiliary is to assist to the Meaford Hospital in every way possible in the interest of best patient care by:
