Group therapy is where it’s at! The most effective way I think to practice being you in all your forms and all your awkwardness. We do this together and the real healing comes when we can be real and support one another. It’s easier than you think. Emotional literacy begins soon. Online and in person sessions. It's a simple concept:
Be Kind.

So many of us find it natural to extend kindness to others, yet when it comes to ourselves, we can be our harshest critics. The voice of judgment can feel so loud, so relentless, that it paralyzes us or makes it hard to simply be. In my practice as a psychotherapist, it is something that I have to continually remind people of.

I am often reminding people to be kinder and more compassionate towards themselves. I invite people to reframe those negative self thoughts that are often playing on a default soundtrack in the forefront of the mind or even just say STOP.

But kindness is a practice—a gentle choice we make moment by moment. And it starts within. 💛

Take a moment right now to pause. Breathe deeply. Place your hand over your heart. Feel its steady rhythm—a reminder that you’re here, alive, and worthy of love.

✨ Speak these words to yourself:

I am worthy of kindness.
I am doing my best, and that is enough.
I am learning and growing every day.

I LOVE YOU.

Smile. Let that smile radiate from within, filling your body with warmth and compassion. Let it remind you that you are enough, exactly as you are in this moment. 🌿

Out of all the arts, singing is the one that most people are afraid of, especially when it comes to singing in front of others.

I have felt this in my own life and seen it in my work as a creative arts therapist. When it comes to singing (especially people who weren't consider "good" singers in their childhood) a lot of people completely shut down or get embarrassed.

Fear and expressing your voice is synonymous for many people.

I wonder:

Why is it so scary to utter a "wrong" note or be out of key?
Why does shame come up when our imperfect voice is heard?
Why is singing something we do in secret so that no one can hear us, yet a lot of secretly long to do out loud?

Last session of Sing Your Heart Out was led by Mamo Koba from and consisted of all "new" singers with a longing to feel more comfortable expressing their voice. He asked us to sing in front of everyone on the first session and while we were scared... we not only survived, but got the experience of hearing our voice held in a supportive community. By the fourth week there was an ease of sharing our voice within the group which was truly transformational.

I realized how few spaces there are to share our voices freely with others and the utter magic that happens when people come together to sing.

In my therapy practice I sometimes give homework.

And the homework is usually this: I tell people to rest. In our overachieving productive driven culture many people derive their sense of identity from not only what the do, but how much of it they do. This can work when you are in your 20's and even 30's but as the body and the mind start ageing, it does catch up with you in your 40's.

The natural world works on the principle of activity balanced with rest, life balanced with death, light balanced with dark.

Too much light and activity means that eventually the body just says I can't do this anymore. It looks like burnout. It's real and serious.

The antidote is REST & STOP. And the long term solution is pencilling that in your schedule so that there is a place for it, regularly.

The REST + RECONNECT retreats are created specifically for this purpose. To have a space to go to where the vibe is all about slowing down the nervous system and mostly the mind, so that you have a chance to get into deep rest and quiet.
