With spring sports off to a start, I thought I'd share an easy to read study on the efficacy of shockwave therapy on tendinopathies.

One of the common tendinopathies we see is medial and lateral epicondylitis or as many people know it - golfer's and tennis elbow. We definitely can see it in people who play these sports repetitively, however, there are also many other things that can cause these dysfunctions as well. For example, it quite often effects people who work in the trades. The daily, repetitive movements of using drills, hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc. can cause this same problem. Shockwave therapy can be an effective and safe way to treat this.

The amount of treatments needed depends on the person, severity and lifestyle. It can take up to 5-8 treatments to remedy. Treatments being about a week apart is recommended for best results. The length of the appointments vary but typically take around 20-40 min. This treatment can be claimed under your extended health benefits and is categorized according to the practitioner providing the service. In this case, it would be covered under your massage therapy benefits. Direct billing is also available, for some companies.

I am currently offering AIRPWT® shockwave therapy to new and existing clients. I am certified in level 1 and 2 of AIRPWT®, giving me 40+ hours of in person training on treating with radial shockwave.

As most of my clients already know, I will be taking an extended holiday this year. As I will be travelling out of country, I will not be able to answer any calls or messages as of tomorrow night until the beginning of October. If you have any questions about your upcoming appointments in the fall or have any other inquiries, please feel free to contact the clinic at 403-527-7006 and one of the other girls can help you out! Just so my clients know what to expect, I am choosing to continue to wear a mask during treatments for the time being. Even if I change this in the future you can still always request I wear a mask for your treatment, if that makes you more comfortable. Also, our cleaning protocols will not be changing much, majority of these protocols in place for COVID are just general standards of practice. If you have any questions or concerns about the changes to our protocols, feel free to contact me!

As of an update on July 1st from our association, we no longer have to adhere to our "Infection Prevention and Control Manual for Massage Therapists in Alberta".

This means that we will no longer be requiring clients to wear masks in the clinic. If you feel more comfortable wearing one, feel free however it will not be mandatory. As for therapists masking, that is no longer required of us either. Your therapist may still choose to wear one or they may not so if you have any questions or concerns about this, please contact your therapist directly.

We still ask that if you are experiencing any of the COVID-19 symptoms to please call and cancel/reschedule your appointment. No fee will be charged for late cancellations due to illness.

For anyone wondering what our COVID protocols are going to be with Stage 3 coming, there won't be any changes within our clinic quite yet. We appreciate everyone's patience and willingness to follow our protocols thus far and in following our associations recommendations, I am hoping everyone can hang on a little bit longer with us!

Referral notes are no longer needed to get a massage!! If you are wanting to book an appointment now that this hurdle isn't in place, give me a shout! I am booking into the end of February/beginning of March. If you would like in sooner than that, you can be put on a cancellation list or you can book with one of the other therapists in the clinic, they are both fantastic!

Great news for Alberta Massage Therapists! Effective January 18, 2021, massage therapists will be allowed to open by appointment only. Clients will no longer be required to have a prescription to receive massage therapy treatments.

To book one of these appointments, you MUST have a doctors note OR a referral note from a regulated healthcare professional referring you for massage therapy treatments.
