An abdominoplasty is an option for patients wishing to remove loose, excess skin and fat. It can repair diastasis recti— a stomach bulge often caused by separated abdominal muscles (many women who have carried a child will have a degree of diastasis- recti). A tummy tuck may also remove stretch marks and further excess skin below the belly button, and reposition your belly button.
An abdominoplasty isn’t the best option for all patients. Your plastic surgeon might refuse to offer you a tummy tuck surgery if you:
* Are not at your goal weight, losing more weight after surgery will effect your results
* Are planning for more children.
* Have an unstable medical condition, like heart disease or diabetes.
* Cannot safely be bridged off of blood thinners.
* Have a BMI (body mass index) of 30 or higher.
* Smoke or v**e ni****ne
* Had previous abdominal surgeries that caused scar tissue.
