⚠️Medicine Hat, we need your help.

🏒 We still don't have a floorball coach. An existing volunteer is doing the best they can, but the season starts Nov. 6.
🎳 Both 5- and tenpin bowling programs can't accept new athletes because we don't have enough volunteer coaches to support them.

Swimming, figure skating, and curling have started, basketball has lots of support, and we're already looking towards spring sports like bocce, golf, and soccer.

With the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games Medicine Hat 2026 less than a year away, we know a flood of volunteers is needed there, too. Most of those are required for only a week or two. For our group, we need an hour or two of your time weekly, that's all. There's a whole community of Special Olympics athletes who would so appreciate your help.

Email soamedicinehat@gmail.com today if you're able to step up. If you can't volunteer directly, please share this message and help us find people who can.

Happy Occupational Therapy Day! 💚
Celebrated each year on October 27th, World Occupational Therapy Day recognizes and appreciates the invaluable contributions of occupational therapists around the world.

Organized by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT), this day highlights the global impact of occupational therapy in promoting health, well-being, and participation in everyday life.

The 2025 theme, “Occupational Therapy in Action,” celebrates the dynamic and essential role occupational therapists play in supporting people to engage in the activities that are important to them - fostering inclusion, independence, and quality of life.

Today, and every day, we express our sincere appreciation to all Occupational Therapists for your dedication, creativity, and compassion. Your work strengthens communities and enhances lives across the globe. 🌍💫

🛁 Bath & Shower Chairs - Comfort and Safety in the Bathroom

Bath and shower chairs are a simple way to make your bathing routine safer and more comfortable. They help reduce the risk of slipping and provide support while you wash.

We carry a variety of styles - some come with armrests, some with backrests, some with both, and some with none at all. Whatever your needs, there’s an option to suit your space and comfort level!

All are designed to sit securely inside your tub or shower and help make bathing easier for anyone who needs extra support.

📸 Just two examples shown here - we have plenty more in store!

💙 It’s Invisible Disabilities Awareness Week 💙

Not all disabilities are visible. Chronic pain, mental health conditions, neurological disorders, and many more challenges may not be seen—but they are very real.

This week is a reminder to show compassion, listen without judgment, and never assume someone’s experience based on appearances alone.

❄️ Winter Safety Tips for Cane, Walker, and Wheelchair Users ❄️
As sorry as we are to say it, winter is headed our way. As the temperature drops and snow begins to fall, it’s important to stay safe and prepared when heading outdoors. Here are some winter tips to help you stay safe, warm, and mobile:

1. Dress for the Weather
Always wear warm, layered clothing - including gloves, a hat, and waterproof outerwear. If you fall or become stuck, staying warm while waiting for help is essential.

2. Wear Proper Footwear
If you’re using a walker or cane, sturdy, non-slip winter boots can provide better traction and help prevent falls on icy or slippery surfaces.

3. Stay Connected
Always carry a cellphone in case you need assistance. If you don’t have one, travel with a companion or let someone know your plans - where you’re going and when you expect to return.

4. Add a Cane Ice Tip
If you use a cane, consider attaching an ice pick (also known as an ice grip or ice spike). These affordable accessories can improve stability on icy sidewalks and paths.

5. Plan Your Route
Avoid areas with deep snow or poorly cleared sidewalks, as these can be difficult - or even impossible - to navigate with mobility aids. Choose routes that are regularly maintained and well-lit.

Stay cautious, stay warm, and most importantly, stay safe this upcoming winter season. ❄️
