I have and use a Calm Corner. My goal in using this is to show kids that emotions are okay but can feel big and I want them to have a safe space when they are feeling frustrated, overwhelmed or even overstimulated, where they can take a moment to breath and self regulate. It is not a "time out" there are books, fidgets and items they can use. I want my children to understand how we feel is never wrong or bad, but how we react can hurt...so let's stop, take a moment, breath and find our words. And yes, i put myself here sometimes. We must teach children how to appropriately manage their emotions, self regulate and ask if they need help doing so without it seeming like they are being punished for something their brains have not developed to do quite yet.
