If you’re already stressed and overwhelmed, adding more nervous system tools can actually slow your healing.

You can include all the “right” things in your healing protocol — but just because something is beneficial doesn’t mean it’s beneficial for YOU right now.

When your system is already overwhelmed and dysregulated, adding more “stuff” often creates more pressure. More to track. More to think about. More urgency. More to do. More to get 'right'. And that, in itself, is stress on the body.

Nervous system healing isn’t about doing everything.
It’s about:
💜Working within your current capacity.
💜Doing less, but consistently.
💜Doing what feels manageable without adding stress.
💜Doing without trying to change the outcome or to speed up healing.
💜Simplifying, not intensifying.

When it comes to regulation, less is more — and consistency is what creates safety in the body, so it can change over time.

The biggest mistake I see people make on their healing journey is giving up when things don't feel like they are going "fast" enough, stalling, or even feeling like they are moving backward.

‼️This doesn’t mean you aren’t healing. It doesn’t even mean you’re back at square one! It’s all just part of the journey.

We all have ups and downs. There are times we celebrate progress, and times when we just want to give up and cry. And that’s okay. 💛

Every healing journey is different, and accepting that it will never be a straight path can help you to keep moving forward.

Don’t give up too soon—you never know when your next breakthrough is right around the corner.

The holidays can be an extra-stressful time, and even a trigger for some of us. So remember this holiday season, that you CAN:

🎄SET BOUNDARIES AND SAY “NO THANKS” – Decide what you can realistically handle and communicate it clearly. Decline invitations or tasks that feel overwhelming without guilt.

🎄TAKE A MOMENT FOR YOURSELF – Step away when needed if feeling overwhelmed or triggered.

🎄MOVE YOUR BODY – Gentle exercise like walking, yoga, or stretching helps release tension.

🎄PRACTICE DEEP BREATHING – Slow, intentional breaths calm the nervous system instantly.

🎄STAY CONNECTED WITH SUPPORTIVE PEOPLE – Spend time with people who uplift and recharge you.

🎄MAINTAIN HEALTHY EATING & SLEEP HABITS – Even small routines help your body stay balanced.

🎄PRACTICE GRATITUDE OR POSITIVE REFLECTION – Focus on small joys or meaningful moments.

The holidays can be a crazy time, but they don't need to wreak havoc on your nervous system. Take care of yourself first!

Are you someone who always feels the need to be in control?

Do you realize that controlling behaviour is actually a nervous system mechanism that shows up as a means of PROTECTION?

That's right - people who like to be in control often do so because their nervous system has learned, through past experiences, that safety wasn’t guaranteed. This can come from many different moments throughout one's life, such as (but not limited to):

😞A past relationship where they were constantly on edge
😞Growing up in a household with unpredictable emotions or instability from parents, guardians or siblings
😞Experiencing a traumatic or overwhelming childhood event
😞Navigating a major life transition where everything felt uncertain
😞Living with a chronic illness that made their body feel unpredictable
😞Having to “grow up too fast” or take care of others at a young age
😞Financial instability or not knowing if basic needs would be met
😞Being shamed, judged, or punished for expressing emotions
😞Feeling unsupported during vulnerable or stressful times
😞Surviving a high-stress environment where hyper-vigilance was necessary
😞Feeling unseen, unheard, or dismissed when they needed comfort

As adults, we try to control situations, environments, and even people to create a sense of safety for ourselves. It's not that we choose to be this way; it's simply a reaction to past experiences.

This need for control can also create barriers to healing, because true healing requires surrender — surrender of pace, outcome, and expectation. And for a dysregulated nervous system, all of that can feel unsafe.

If this resonates with you, know that there is another way forward, and it begins within your body.
When you understand that the urge to control is actually your nervous system’s attempt to keep you safe, you can meet it with compassion instead of frustration. Thank it for protecting you when you needed it.

And then, slowly, we can teach the body a new story — one where it doesn’t have to cling so tightly.

Where safety is felt, not forced.
