We are lucky to have so many off-leash options here but after owning and walking dogs for over 30 years, I can guarantee this: every dog will need to be on a leash at some point.

Behavior problems don’t start out of nowhere.
Most of the time, they start with unused energy.

Research in canine behavior shows that many common issues such as chewing, barking, pulling on leash, pacing, restlessness, even anxiety are strongly linked to lack of exercise and lack of the right kind of exercise.

Here’s the part many people miss 👇
Dogs sleep and rest 12–14 hours a day, sometimes more. But when they are awake, their brains are meant to work.

Studies show:
• Dogs that get regular physical activity + mental stimulation show fewer destructive behaviors
• Sniffing, exploring, and problem-solving lower stress hormones like cortisol
• Boredom increases frustration, which often shows up as “bad behavior”

And the old saying is true:
If your dog doesn’t burn energy outside, they’ll burn it inside.

Ever wonder why your dog loves a good snow roll? One reason is the cool, fluffy texture can boost energy and spark play mode. It gives them a sensory experience they don't get everyday.
On my structured, focused walks, I make room for joy & learning. Heightened states of excitement ( like during the snow zoomies ) are a great time to practice recall. It's an important skill for safety, reliability and helps dogs to manage emotions while still tuning in to you.

The holidays are fun but BUSY. Decorations, guests, food, errands, parties, and last-minute prep can make things chaotic for pets. A few quick tips can help keep your dog safe and avoid extra stress for you.

🎄 Holiday Safety Basics
Decorations: Keep ornaments, tinsel, and cords out of reach. Secure your tree so it can’t tip over.

Food Hazards: Avoid table scraps. Chocolate, grapes/raisins, onions, poultry bones, alcohol, and rich foods can all be dangerous.

Guests & Doors: Introduce visitors slowly, watch open doors and set up a quiet retreat space where your dog can relax.

Routine: Stick to your dog’s usual feeding and walking schedule as much as possible.
