There are many ways this can show up in your relationships. Hereās a little story of one of these ways:
Letās equate the kindness, love, acceptance, and grace that you can give to yourself and others to money. Perhaps at this point in your journey, youāre struggling to have a good relationship with yourself. Youād consider your self-talk very negative, when you mess up you get mad at yourself, and you constantly feel like youāre not good enough. Itās rare that you say or do anything that is kind or loving for yourself. In this case, youāre giving yourself pennies.
Then a new person comes into your life and starts giving you dimes. Thatās going to seem like a huge leap from pennies!! Ten times more worth of kindness and love than youāve seen before? That would seem incredible!! You would feel like you are getting so much. But ultimately, dimes still arenāt worth very much.
Letās switch it around. Perhaps at this point in your journey, you have an amazing relationship with yourself. You have grace for yourself when youāre having a hard day, encourage yourself with positive affirmations and completely accept yourself for who you are. You are giving yourself 100 dollar bills.
Then a new person comes into your life and starts giving you dimes. Youāre probably going to realize right away that dimes arenāt even close to the 100 dollar bills that you give yourself! How could they think that youāre only worth giving dimes to? You know youāre worth and you are worth the 100 dollar bills!! You likely wouldnāt keep that person around very long if all they ever gave you was dimes.
When you know your worth and have a strong, loving relationship with yourself, it is easier to recognize when others arenāt treating you well; and you can, instead, choose to surround yourself with people who love and cherish you the way you deserve.
