Safety City Medicine Hat

Safety City Medicine Hat Supporting healthy futures for children through safety, wellness and injury prevention programming.

Last year our programming reached 9,365 students in Medicine Hat and our surrounding rural communities. As a non-profit organization, we rely heavily on the generosity of our community and local businesses to sustain these programs and services. Please reach out to us if you are interested in donating or sponsoring one of our programs. With your support, we can continue to grow and remain a fixture of safety education for children in our area.

So grateful to those of you who are willing to say how impactful safety city has been and how important it is for the needs of the new Safety Village.

Here is just one I’ll share from a very special parent in this community who has a powerful story behind her plight to see the changes needed in our community for our children and their families.

*This is very important to me and cant wait to watch this thrive into something big for our community. I think these two are about to be the biggest change our community needs desperately. It truly does take a village and takes everyone to use thier voice!! Our youth needs our help more then ever right now , thier mental health is at an alarming rate and they need more resources as well as families need building kind of support and help groups so kids dont feel like its just on them. We as parents need to step in now to save our kids future by having programs and supports that teach our children dangers of owning social media accounts and cyber bullying and have programs that help teach us to teach our kids about social media and working as a team rather then leaving our babies to face the not so good and the ripple affect if something bad did happened all alone. Its not just about social media its about life safety and learning about road safety and paying attention to our surroundings and so much more. Unfortunately some how us parents stepped back and let our kids go a little to a head of us so I strongly believe safety city is what our community needs to bring our families back together, our youth back to being just kids. most importantly its what we need to help our babies who are not making good choices and not using not nice words or actions the help and support they need because they are not bad kids and they shouldnt be punished and labeled with a name "bully"unless it's absolutely dangerous then of course they need to be held accountable but they need to be educated and given support and showen love and respect. They are just kids making poor choices and as adults its our role to be a village and support them. I understand some have very strong opinions and your own thoughts but lets put that aside and think of our kids and there future and lets think of how things are in our kids lives right now and how distant families have become. We all need to understand this is going to be the biggest impact medicine hat ever felt if we stand strong together and help them by being either being a voice , a support, volunteer or whatever it may be , big or small we will all make this thrive. Sorry ill stop rambling lol im just very passionate about this project because my two children who I lost to mental health didnt have this as a possibility in there future before it got dark and scary 😪 but now we can save these babies , one life at a time!! So lets do this together medicine hat!!!!

As a community member in Medicine Hat we hope you take the time, ask the questions, volunteer your time, resources and partnership with us to build this new center.

✨ A New Vision for Safety Village — Prevention, Education & Community Support ✨

We recently had the opportunity to sit down at Rogers to talk about the future of Safety Village—where we’ve been, and more importantly, where we’re going.

In this interview, Ron Pennington, President, Board Member, and volunteer, and Joely Augustino, Executive Board Member and volunteer, share a renewed vision for Safety Village—one grounded in what this organization has always existed for: prevention, education, and support for children and families.

Safety Village is more than a space—it’s a community resource designed to help keep our kids safer through learning, real-life skill building, and prevention-focused programming. As the needs of our community evolve, we’re committed to ensuring Safety Village remains relevant, accessible, and truly impactful.

This next chapter focuses on:
• Strengthening community and first-responder partnerships
• Expanding education and prevention initiatives
• Creating an inclusive, engaging space that reflects today’s realities

As volunteers, we’re proud to lead this work—but we can’t do it without community support. If you believe in prevention, safety education, and building a stronger community for families, here’s how you can help:

• Volunteer your time or skills
• Partner or sponsor a program or initiative
• Donate or support through in-kind contributions
• Share this video to spread awareness and build momentum

📺 Please watch the interview and consider how you might be part of helping Safety Village grow into what our community needs it to be.

🙏 A sincere thank you to Rogers for providing the platform to amplify volunteer-led, community-driven initiatives like this.

Because when we invest in prevention and support, we invest in our children—and our future. 💛

Thank you for your service and sacrifice 🌺

Thank You to Our Volunteers & Sponsors

What an incredible day at Safety City!
Thank you to everyone who bundled up, braved the brisk fall wind, and filled our park with warmth and community spirit.

To our volunteers — your time, kindness, and energy made this event possible. Every pumpkin carved, every game played, every welcome at the gate and smile at a booth helped create a magical day for families. We truly could not do this without you.

A very special thank-you to Kiwanis of Gas City - Since 1961 for the amazing and delicious food. You served families with generosity and heart, and we are so grateful for your continued support.

Thank you to our AHS EMS Paramedics — for bringing the ambulance, offering tours, teaching safety, and spending time with the kids. You made learning fun and inspiring.

Thank you to Starbucks Medicine Hat – Dunmore Road for keeping everyone warm with fabulous coffee and friendly smiles. Your kindness was felt in every cup.

This event was more than a celebration — it was a fundraiser for the revitalization of Safety Village.
Every volunteer hour, every booth, and every family who walked through our gates helped move this dream forward. Together, we are rebuilding a safe, vibrant learning space for our children and community.

📸 We’d love to see your photos!
If you snapped pictures or videos, please share them on social media and tag Safety City so we can celebrate with you!

On behalf of Safety City and our Board of Directors —
thank you.
It takes a village.

Until next time ❤️

Huge thanks to Faye and Murray Miller from Kiwanis of Gas City - Since 1961, the dynamic duo who slaved away in the kitchen, cooking up a storm, and then took cover from the wind to run the show in the food trailer at our Harvest event. Oh, and they even picked the lucky winner of the community basket raffle. This was a freebie for all adults who entered the park to share with their families. Big ups to our awesome sponsors who donated goodies: Save-On-Foods, Sobeys, The Hat's Olive Tap Ltd, Medicine Hat Mavericks, Medicine Hat Firefighters, and some super cool stuff from Safety City Medicine Hat. You've got 24 hours to claim your prize, from 9 am today till 9 am tomorrow.
