Domestic violence affects people in every community across Canada, impacting individuals, families, and generations. Addressing domestic violence demands education, prevention, and systemic change. Racism and discrimination deeply influence how survivors are treated and the supports available to them. Racialized, Indigenous, and marginalized communities often face additional barriers when seeking safety and justice, including systemic bias within institutions and unequal access to culturally appropriate services.
Social workers are often on the frontlines, creating safer spaces for survivors, challenging harmful norms, and confronting the social and structural inequities that allow violence to persist. CASW calls on social workers to continue to advocate for survivors, supporting their paths to safety and healing, and working collectively to dismantle the systems of oppression that sustain violence.
