📣 Important Update for My Valued Clients 📣

Over the last six months, I’ve experienced significant changes in both my professional and personal life. After careful consideration, I made the decision to secure a full-time position elsewhere in order to support my future goals. As a result, I’ve made some important changes to the delivery of my foot care services.

In light of these adjustments, I have made the difficult decision to close my clinic location. However, I remain committed to serving the community, and I’m excited to continue offering my foot care services through pre-booked events. This transition allows me to stay connected with you while also pursuing new opportunities.

I deeply appreciate your continued trust and support. If you have any questions or would like to book services for an upcoming event, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I look forward to continuing to care for your foot health in this new format.

Thank you for your understanding and loyalty during this time of transition.

Sincerely,
Melissa Krause, LPN FCN Ed.

Over the weekend I had the opportunity to connect with other Foot Care Nurses in Nelson, B.C. where we successfully completed certification on some more advanced Foot Care skills.

These skills included:
1. Biomechanics- static & dynamic with use of the goniometer to assess for range of motion.
2. A Presentation on Lower Leg excercises with and without the use of a ball.
2. Gait Analysis- Head to Toe.
3. Off Loading & Padding- moulding soft durable custom digital appliances using a mouldable foot care compound.
4. Peripheral Arterial Disease Assessment
5. Ankle Brachial Pressure Index including best practices as per Wounds Canada (oscillometric & with Doppler).

We also had the opportunity to watch a demonstration of plaster casting- part of the process in making custom foot orthotics.

Nurses use several practices to assess for neuropathy in diabetic patients, including:

Patient History: Gathering information about symptoms like numbness, tingling, or pain in the feet. Medication review.

Monofilament Test: Using a thin monofilament to check sensation on various points of the foot.

Vibration Test: Employing a tuning fork to assess vibratory sensation.

Reflex Testing: Checking ankle reflexes to assess nerve function using a goniometer.

Temperature Sensation: Using warm and cool objects to evaluate the patient's ability to sense temperature changes.

Visual Inspection: Looking for signs of foot deformities, skin changes, or ulcers that may indicate neuropathy.

I’m off to Nelson next weekend to expand my clinical skill set! I’m excited to reconnect with a few of the ladies that I was trained by when I first took my Nursing Foot Care Training in 2019! It’s important to stay on top of ever changing and evolving medical practices to keep your skills current. This will allow me to provide more extensive, higher quality care to my clients.

Can't wait to see all of the Kootenay Advanced Skills Workshop participants tonight at the live Zoom session - and then again next weekend in Nelson BC for a BIG day of hands-on skills training.
This hybrid online/in-person workshop filled up quickly, but we will be running more, so send us an email if you are interested! Topics include: ABPI, Biomechanics & Offloading, Diabetic Foot Care Management, and more! admin@footcanada.ca

Please note: Foot care instruments are considered critical instruments. Following best practice infection prevention and control measures; I utilize single use instruments that are pre-sterilized and packaged, used on one client, and disposed of following treatment.

Remember: If you're visiting any other clinic or spa, please be aware of this for your own safety. If these critical instruments are reused on multiple clients and not sterilized sufficiently the risk of transmitting serious disease or infection is possible.
