Some members of our community in the Annapolis Valley spend night after night outside in the cold. While most of us can go home, warm up, and feel safe, many of our neighbours don’t have that option.

On February 28, we’re asking you to do something simple but powerful — go for a walk.

Join us for the Coldest Night of the Year and Walk With Open Arms. Every step you take helps raise funds and awareness to support people experiencing homelessness across the Annapolis Valley.

This is more than a walk. It’s a chance to stand beside neighbours who deserve warmth, safety, dignity, and support.

If you’ve ever wanted to make a difference, this is your moment. Bundle up, bring your friends or family, and walk with us — because for many in our community, the cold isn’t just one night… it’s many.

Flourish 55+ Healthy Activity Society Centre hosts a monthly games night, bringing older adults and young people together over Crib, Scrabble, Snakes and Ladders – and lots of snacks.

Backed by a wellness grant from the Lunenburg County Community Health Board, the third Tuesday of each month translates into meaningful connections and a chance to bridge the gap between generations.

Games night is a simple, joyful way to build relationships and create new ones.

“We talk about intergenerational wealth and I think it’s really defined as the time we spend together and what we learn from one another. This project is about bringing the ages back together.”

Get in touch to plan your Wellness Fund grant application!

Beginning on Monday, February 16th, CHBs throughout the province will begin accepting applications for our CHB Wellness Fund program. These grants support local health promotion initiatives such as the Beginner's Sewing Workshop, a project of YMCA Centre for Immigrant Services that introduced individuals to the fundamentals of sewing while fostering a sense of community, confidence, and creativity. More than just a skills based program, this served as a conversation circle - a space where participants could connect, share experiences, and build relationships while learning a valuable craft.

If your group, school, non-profit, or organization has an idea for a new project that would improve the health and wellness of your community, reach out to your local CHB Coordinator to discuss your idea. The deadline to submit applications is April 15th at 5:00 p.m.

The CHBs are a committed group of volunteers who are working together to improve the health and wellness of their communities CHBs also do advocacy work, create partnership and collaboration and, distribute Wellness funds annually to local community groups. Developed by Barb Madic

Community Health Boards (CHBs) are groups of volunteers from your community. They work together to improve health & wellness where we live, work, play and learn. They gather your ideas and share information about how to improve and promote health & wellness close to home. They focus on the many factors that affect health & wellness in our communities including income, education and sense of belonging, among others. CHBs share what they have learned about your health & wellness priorities with Nova Scotia Health Authority, IWK Health Centre, and community groups. CHBs advocate for actions to promote and improve health & wellness based on what communities say is most important. Guided by their Community Health Plans, they develop partnerships with local community groups and they award Wellness Fund grants to local community projects
