Tapas energy for April - Yoga for the Core - Chair Practice
April is Aries season, bringing its tenacity, stubbornness, and a willingness to get down and dirty with whatever challenge it is presented with. This makes it a perfect month to cultivate core strength and tapas.
Tapas is the third Niyama and signifies passion, self-discipline, and the will power required on the journey toward spiritual growth. This Niyama asks us to lean in and face our fears, remember our value, and put in the work required to become the best version of ourselves.
Before change can take place there is always that moment of surrender. This surrender isnβt about giving up on what matters, rather it is a surrender to the movement of our innermost beings. Itβs where we suddenly decide that there is no other path to take than the one that requires us to put one foot in front of the other toward wholeness, integrity, and that which allows us to shine our inner light in its purest form.
What we need is a balance, both physically and energetically. Thus, tapas isnβt about putting our nose to the grindstone and working ourselves to the bone. Itβs about intentionally turning toward, and leaning into our own becoming.
When we hop on our yoga mats, tuning into tapas provides us with an opportunity to find a balance between sthira (effort, steadiness, stability, and firmness), and sukha (ease, happiness, joy, and bliss). We lean into the asanas (postures) that challenge us and take effort, and then bring that energy back to softening and surrender.
I hope you enjoy, meet your edge, and go out into the world feeling strong and connected to your innermost Self.
