Calm like a bubble… light, soft, and no stress. A gentle reminder to pause, breathe, and let yourself feel light.

This year marks the third anniversary of Pink Arrows and I am really excited about the impact my volunteer work has had on the community!

It may sound strange but dealing with a cancer diagnosis has turned out to be a hidden blessing for me. I’m truly thankful for the amazing people I have met along my journey as a breast cancer survivor and advocate.

I have dedicated myself to supporting Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing (DDBHH) women as they navigate their breast cancer experiences. This commitment drives me to create meaningful connections across all ages and regions in Canada and around the world in their cancer journeys.

As a young survivor, I understand the emotional and physical challenges that come with a breast cancer diagnosis. I’m passionate about creating safe spaces where DDBHH women can connect, share their stories, and support one another.

The underrepresentation of the Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing community is a real issue. There isn’t enough information about women with disabilities who are affected by breast cancer and I hope this platform can help fill those gaps and address their specific needs.

Thank you for sharing your stories, experiences, and insights with me. Most importantly, thank you for listening to mine.

I have some exciting news: our walk/run event is back with a new plan!

Stay tuned for more updates on this journey…! 💕🤟🏻

With love,

Good morning, my followers!

I feel sooooo grateful to have witnessed the WONDERFUL turnout at the OSD-SJW School Reunion in Belleville last weekend.

This experience has taught me that reunions offer more than just a chance to reconnect with former classmates; they also bring up a renewed sense of belonging to our school community that stays with us forever. I am truly thankful for the dedicated Committee who poured their efforts into making this event happen. After the pandemic postponed the 2020 reunion, everyone finally celebrated a decade since the last reunion in 2015!

At my Pink Arrows booth, I had the joy of meeting both familiar and new faces. Many shared their personal journeys with breast cancer and other diagnoses, revealing how these experiences have affected their lives. Others expressed about their loved ones facing cancer. This created a space filled with hope where everyone felt acknowledged and understood.

Let me tell you a quick story. I had a visitor at my booth from a previous event. She was in her early 40s. The booth gave me the opportunity to share the latest information in ASL especially updated screening guidelines and accessibility standards (like self-referral, DI requests). We discussed the importance of breast density and the hard truth that women could develop breast cancer before turning 40. Not long after our conversation, she met with her family doctor for consultation. Our conversation empowered her to ask for a mammogram due to some concerning symptoms. One appointment led to another and thankfully, cancer was found early in the duct tissue of her breast.

To everyone who has opened up and shared their experiences with me, I want you to know: I see you and I hear you. Your stories matter and sometimes a simple conversation can make change - even save a life!

Please help me spread the word about my platform. It will only take a moment of your time!

Don’t forget to hit “like” and “follow” me! 💕🤟🏻💕

Hi followers! I received some inquiries about my booth at Mayfest in Toronto last weekend, but unfortunately, I couldn’t participate due to juggling a full-time job and personal commitments.

Thankfully, the amazing community leader, Patricia Spicer, will be representing Pink Arrows with a booth at the Spring Expo this Saturday at The Travelodge in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan! Huge thanks to Patricia! Stay tuned for a post with all the details!

Exciting news: I’m hosting a FREE online workshop! I invite you to join me to learn more about breast health and my experiences as a breast cancer advocate.

Barbara Faye Lowney

September 3, 1959 - April 11, 2025

“Montana Barb”

One of our cherished pink sisters. Now at rest.

She left behind a legacy of bright smiles and contagious laughter, always ready with a clever joke! Her friendship was a gift that completed us, and we are eternally grateful for her love.

Though Barb departed far too soon, she will forever hold a place in our hearts. Her spirit will guide us on the journeys that lie ahead, especially for us, her pink sisters, as we strive to raise awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection.

The memories we created together at the Image Reborn retreat in Dillon, Colorado, will be treasured for all time. This picture is one of the first pictures taken and admired by Barb. She really felt beautiful wearing her Hawaiian 🌺 shirt.

The tears we shed are not merely for sorrow, but a reflection of the deep bond of friendship that will endure.

Rest in peace, my dear friend. 🩷 🤟🏻

I had the privilege of making new connections at the breast health workshops I provided for and Halton Deaf Seniors earlier this month.

The message I shared with those groups was the critical importance of early detection. The earlier it is found, the better the chance for survival.

Deaf culture is a huge part of our community; however, resources for breast cancer awareness and advocacy are often limited. Plus, much of the information surrounding breast cancer is primarily shared in spoken language and often lacks translation into sign languages.

Knowledge is power. Early detection can save your life. As a result of my experience diagnosed with this awful disease, it has inspired me to embark on a journey as an educator and health advocate, aiming to empower Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of hearing women to take control of their health through knowledge and a deeper understanding of their own bodies.

Educate yourself on what to look for. Join me in this space to learn and share about how you can take charge of your breast health!

The workshop is free!

Thank you again, to DMC and BRCEED for having me.
