*Athlete's foot (tinea pedis) is a fungal skin infection that usually begins between the toes. It commonly occurs in people whose feet have become very sweaty while confined within tight-fitting shoes.

Signs and symptoms of athlete's foot include an itchy, scaly rash. The condition is contagious and can be spread via contaminated floors, towels or clothing.

Does this look familiar?

What is it?
Plantar warts are small growths on the feet. They usually present on the balls and heels of the feet. (the areas that bear the most pressure) This pressure may also cause a wart to grow inward beneath a hard, thick layer of skin (callus)
Plantar warts are caused by HPV. This virus enters through tiny cuts or breaks on the bottom of the feet.

Do we treat Plantar Warts? Absolutely!

Q: Do you experience pain in your heels or arches in the morning?
A: It could be Plantar fasciitis.

Q: What is Plantar fasciitis?
A: Plantar fasciitis is the inflammation of the plantar fascia, which is a band of soft tissue that runs from your heels to the metatarsal bones. When tight, it pulls on the base of the heel, leading to heel and arch pain.
Some of the most common causes of Plantar fasciitis are:
• Foot mechanics
• Exercises that cause stress on the arch and heels
• Occupations that require prolonged walking or standing on hard surfaces
• Tight calf muscles or plantar fascia
• Inappropriate footwear
• Weight gain

Q: How can a Chiropodist help treat Plantar fasciitis?
A: Chiropodists can help identify the cause of the pain and discuss the various treatment options to best suit your needs.
Some of the ways we can treat Plantar fasciitis are:
• Stretches: We can help identify where the tightness lies and educate patients on proper technique.
• Footwear: We can assess your foot and recommend appropriate footwear to support your foot. We also carry orthopaedic footwear.
• Orthotics: We can make custom foot orthotics to help support your foot and control the biomechanical factors leading to pain.
• Shockwave Therapy: We carry Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy. When administering this therapy, high-energy shock waves are applied to the painful area, which promotes better blood circulation and formation of new blood vessels, leading to increased self-healing.
• Cortisone injections: We can inject cortisone into the heel to alleviate pain and inflammation.
• Surgery: If conservative management fails, surgery can be performed.

Please contact us to schedule an appointment with one of our Chiropodists to assess and treat your foot.
