There are a few main reasons why I have such a deep passion for health and wellness that only continues to grow.
· It probably started out if I look back on it when my mom passed away. Twenty four years ago today, my mom lost her short battle with Brain Cancer. When I was blessed with my own children, I vowed to do my best (as only so much is in our control) to be around for when my grandchildren grow up.
· We had a hard time getting pregnant (it took us 4 years after suffering a miscarriage). After doing several rounds of IUI I started to do work with an acupuncturist and right before we were going to start our only round of Invitro, we got pregnant naturally.
· A number of years ago now, I had my own health scare where I was hospitalized with an autoimmune condition. I knew at that point I wasn’t taking care of myself and needed to make my health and well-being a priority (just as much as my young children).
· More recently, a few years ago my daughter started to develop symptoms that impacted her day to day life but we couldn’t figure out how to get rid of them. After working with a number of professionals I learned about Functional Practitioners (who get to the root cause of symptoms) and discovered that she not only had leaky gut, but also has a sever intolerance to gluten. If she had continued on as she was (in terms of eating gluten) there is a very high probability that she would develop an autoimmune condition during her life.
All of these things contributed to me wanting to make changes in my own life, how I take care of myself, daily healthy habits I’ve incorporated and how I teach my kids and others to do the same. It’s a continuous work in progress. I love learning various things and ways to support our health.
Our world has changed so much and continues to do so. Our food has changed drastically, the amount of toxins that surround us is astonishing, the stress we are under is too much, while technology has so many benefits, it also has so many downsides (don’t’ get me started on social media and kids), and the way people interact has changed especially over the last few years .
In my opinion, we need to spend more time outdoors, surrounded by community, eating food grown from the ground (ie not processed), getting sunlight in and on us, taking time to breathe, being present in the moment, being grateful for the little (and big ) things in life, love deeply, believe in something greater than us, do things that bring us joy and have a positive mindset and we need to be our own advocates for our health. List to your body and what it is telling you.
What would you add to this list?
Thank you mom for all you taught me. For your deep love of our family. I do what I do in honour of you. To support those you loved and would've loved. And to help as many others as I can too. ❤️🙏❤️
