Kekoa Tree

Kekoa Tree Servicing all ages. This allows us to work together towards the common goal of your wellness- all under one roof.

Kekoa Tree offers a multi-disciplinary approach to rehabilitation and wellness; psychological assessments and therapy, osteopaths, reflexologists, acupuncturists, life coaches, educational coaches, therapeutic yoga instructors, RMT. We’re happy to let you know that after decades in the healthcare industry, our dream of creating a collective of practitioners who work to address the totality of a person’s health has come true. Today, Kekoa Tree takes the division out between practices that span over the physical, mental and soul segments of our lives, and brings them together in-house. Everything that we do, from massage therapy to occupational therapy, educational tutoring, psychotherapy and life coaching (and so much more!) – is from the understanding that the bigger picture of our health is interconnected. We see health as all-encompassing of the mind, body and soul. So, we work with you to design a roadmap to your optimal being. And as you grow and change, our services will evolve with you, every step of the way.

Babies attempt to express themselves in words with meaning anywhere between 9 and 14 months. But babies start learning how to speak right after birth, mainly by watching and listening to you and other people!👶🏾

The best way to help your baby say its first words is to talk to them a lot! Your baby will be eager to pick up on your verbal cues.🗣

Try to narrate your day, describe what you’re doing as you dress your baby, cook dinner or walk down the street. Speak the names of objects and people. Read to your baby, pointing out objects and their names in the pictures it sees!📖

Believe it or not, it’s just as appropriate to hear a child’s first words at either end of that age range or any age in between. Remember, every child develops at their own pace!✨♡

Sensory play activity post! Hit the save button to refer back when ready to try this activity. ✨

Fill up your baby pool, plastic bin, or bathtub with about 3-5 inches of water. Sq**rt some bubble bath into the water, throw in the toys/other objects and let your child play! 🙌🏼

Water play provides many opportunities to develop fine and gross motor skills. As kids pour, scoop, sq**rt, and stir, they develop communication, language, and problem-solving skills.

It is also an excellent opportunity for them to learn about cause and effect, floating versus sinking, making a hypothesis, and measuring liquids are just a few of the science and math concepts that kids will experience during water play!😃

Did you know that there are 300 different sign languages, with actually only 130 that are recognized worldwide?!😲

Signed languages are the most organic of human languages. They evolved naturally whenever and wherever a group of people with hearing impairments needed to communicate. Signed languages are fully capable of the same complexity as spoken languages. Signed and spoken languages are complex linguistic systems that differ in where and how they are expressed and understood. The fact is that sign language accesses similar brain structures as spoken languages!✨♡

A fun way to engage phonemic awareness skills is by playing the game I-Spy, but instead of colours, play with sounds. Plus, it’s mobile; you can take this game anywhere, so it’s perfect for busy families on the go!🙌🏼

This game helps them focus and identify the initial letter sound in words, an important building block for strong reading as they grow.✨♡

Earbuds are basically a pair of tiny speakers that you wear inside your ears. At low volumes, they're useful little devices. But playing loud music close to your eardrums can cause permanent hearing loss!👂🏽

Doctors recommend the 60%/60-minute rule:

» Your volume level should be no more than 60% of the maximum volume
» Limit the amount of time you spend with earbuds in your ears to 60 minutes

Here's another way to find out if your earbuds are at a safe volume: Ask people sitting near you if they can hear your music. If they can, turn the volume down until other people can't hear it.🙌🏼

Earbuds exist because so many of us love music! So be sure to follow our tips to protect your hearing, and you can continue to appreciate music. 🎶

Meet Yvonne! She is a certified Speech-Language Pathologist and Audiologist, registered with both designations with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario.😃

She completed her undergraduate degree in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology at California State University. And also got her Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology! She spent several years working in the educational setting within a specialized hearing-impaired program that facilitated Auditory-Verbal therapy. 🗣

Over the past year, Yvonne relocated the HearSay office and built an all-encompassing rehab and wellness center that brought a wide array of rehab professionals together under one roof. The ability to collaborate as an entire team of professionals enables the center to develop a 'road map' for parents and families based on those elements needed to reach their full learning and communication potential. ✨♡

Be sure to nourish your soul this weekend. Weather is getting nicer, days are longer. I saw 3 bright red cardinals fly through my yard this morning ❤️

FUN FACT: Did you know cardinals get their red feathers from food. While female cardinals are light brown, the red pigment in the male cardinal’s feathers comes from carotenoids in their food. If these pigment-triggering foods are in short supply, their feathers may fade to a more brownish hue.
