Please meet Angelique!
I am excited to join the team at Emulate Wellness. I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. One of the things that drew me to becoming a counsellor was my time as the Executive Director of a woman's transition house that dealt with primarily substance abuse. Yet, there were underlying contributing factors like depression and anxiety, childhood trauma, adult trauma, and domestic violence. Working in the field of substance use for the past twelve years has allowed me to witness the strength, resiliency, and ability to heal that is in each of us.
We all have a story unique to our lived experiences, and I strive to provide a space for each person to feel safe and empowered. Our stories deserve to be heard with compassion and respect and without judgment or assumptions. When we feel safe, we can open up and allow ourselves to be seen, which takes courage. I take a client-centred approach that enables us to collaborate on your goals for your journey while using my skills in EMDR, ACT, DBT and other therapeutic modalities.
I am completing certification in Conflict Resolution and the San'yas Indigenous Cultural Safety training. I have also been trained in Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
I am accepting clients aged 12 and up, and I am committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment regardless of race, culture, gender, s*xual orientation, or religious affiliation.
My primary focus areas of counselling are anxiety, depression, relationships, life transitions, stress management, trauma, substance use and other addictions, compassion fatigue/burnout and vicarious trauma.
"I now see how owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we will ever do."
