A common but deeply flawed belief about psychological trauma is that it must originate from distinctly horrific events.

This misconception causes many individuals to underestimate their own trauma, particularly when their experiences do not align with the dramatic portrayals often seen in media.

It's not uncommon to encounter adults who recount instances of emotional, physical, or sexual abuse as if they were mere anecdotes, often using humor and smiles to mask the pain.

Yet, when they begin to truly process the severity of what they endured and its lasting impacts, they are frequently shocked and overwhelmed.

This phenomenon is rooted in childhood coping mechanisms. Children naturally interpret the behavior of authoritative figures in their lives — be it parents, relatives, or teachers — as normal, regardless of whether it includes beatings, humiliation, or neglect.

Phrases like, "Was I beaten? That happened to everyone," or, "So what if I was ignored or humiliated! At least I wasn't beaten," illustrate how deeply these experiences are normalized.

From an evolutionary standpoint, this ability to normalize distressing experiences acts as a protective mechanism in environments of , such as within dysfunctional families.

While this can be crucial for survival during childhood, it often becomes a detriment in adulthood, making it difficult to adapt socially and exacerbating feelings of isolation and despair.

Tragically, those who have endured trauma frequently delay seeking psychological help until their conditions have deteriorated significantly, compounded by self-blame and ineffective personal coping strategies.

Many struggle with trust and continue to live in a state of despair, often without fully understanding or acknowledging the traumatic foundations of their .

In our journey through the emotional landscape, we've explored fear, guilt, anger, arrogance, boredom, and doubts.

Today, we turn our attention to — a complex and often painful emotional experience.

Jealousy often intertwines with affection and love, particularly when fueled by the fear of losing someone dear.

It typically originates from low self-esteem and manifests as a mix of and behaviors.

These can include distrust, excessive suspicion, envy, resentment, and feelings of guilt and anger directed both towards oneself and others.

Additionally, jealousy often leads to behaviors marked by possessiveness, a lack of control, and egotism.

Consider the attached movie clip, which portrays a classic scenario: a jealous individual witnesses their partner with someone else and reacts harshly.

The scene unfolds with rude and provocative behavior, where the jealous person blames, humiliates, and eventually becomes aggressive...

“Jealousy is the fear of comparison.” (Max Frisch)

"I didn't realize the severity of my mental health problems initially. I struggled with overthinking, insomnia, and anxiety so severe that I would sometimes escape to my parents' house in the middle of the night. They were supportive; my mom would reassure me of my strength. Despite their compassion, my condition didn't improve until I sought psychotherapy. Now, I understand that seeking help is not a sign of weakness."

"Before starting psychotherapy, I endured years of depression with brief, deceptive highs. Each time, I hoped the depression had lifted, but it always returned, plunging me back into despair, self-blame, and loneliness. Now, in therapy, I've learned to separate my identity from my depression and to treat it as a manageable condition."

"I used to feel nothing but apathy and disconnection from myself and others. Looking back, I can see that I was constantly misinterpreting people's emotions and their actions towards me. When people were interacting with me in a way I perceived as rude or negative, I never used to consider the extent that my own negativity or rudeness may have influenced the interaction, or that the other person may simply be processing their own difficulties or traumas. Through therapy, I've come to understand that my mental health problems were causing me to withdraw and react negatively. Now, I recognize that I am more than my ."

"Often, my friends misunderstand my challenges, perceiving me as selfish or out of control. Such comments are painful, but I have learned to make peace with it. At the same time, while my family tries to help, they sometimes make things worse. Working with a has helped me learn to manage my impulsiveness and to interact more patiently and effectively with those around me."

🌱Encourage Emotional Growth: The act of opening up and reflecting on one’s experiences promotes emotional well-being and personal development.

How E Clinic Cards Can Change Lives:

By the end of the day, they have formed deep, unexpected bonds and gained a better understanding of themselves and each other.

As one works through the prompts, they share personal stories and struggles they’ve never discussed before.

Just like in "The Breakfast Club", the atmosphere shifts from casual to personal. One discovers shared experiences and insights, leading to a stronger sense of camaraderie and support.
