Many people struggle to fall asleep and stay asleep, leaving them tired throughout the day. Here are just some of the keys to getting a night of better sleep:
1) Wind down about an hour or two before you plan to go to bed for the night.
2) Excercise and maintaining a healthy body are important for your overall health and getting you a proper night's sleep.
3) Keeping up with a sleep routine helps your body get used to going to sleep and waking up at certain times. Your routine sleep schedule is ideal for those who want consistent good sleep.
4) Avoiding fatty foods is important because the nutrients we get from food serve as the building blocks for other minerals and proteins that are needed to create the amino acids that are involved in sleep, helping you sleep better.
5) Limiting screen time on your electronics, especially right before bed, is important to get the best sleep you can. Screens emit blue light that interferes with our natural sleep cycles.
6) Avoid stimulates, such as caffeine, because they make it difficult for your body to wind down and make it harder for you to fall asleep. Caffeine can be found in many things including tea, coffee, and even chocolate.
7) Make sure your sleeping environment is the temperature at which you are most comfortable. If the room is too hot or too cold, your body will not be able to fully relax.
8) Lastly, make sure your room is dark enough. Our minds associate bright lights with daytime and being awake. Whereas darkness is associated with nighttime and sleep. In turn, granting you a much better sleep.
