Back pain is a common struggle many of us face. Known as โ€˜Kati Shoolaโ€™ in Ayurveda, this discomfort often arises from muscles, nerves, bones, or joints in the spine.
Causes can varyโ€”from poor sleep positions to slouching at your desk or even imbalanced nutrition. But thereโ€™s hope! Ayurveda offers a holistic approach to managing back pain by addressing the root causes.
In Ayurveda, Vata is often linked to back pain. To help restore balance, techniques like Abhyanga (warm oil massage) and Kati Vasti (focused oil therapy) can be incredibly effective. Incorporating Pranayama practices, such as Anulom Viloma (alternate nostril breathing), can also support Vata balance.
Herbs like Guggul, Nirgundi, Shallaki, and Ginger are fantastic allies in easing discomfort.

In Ayurveda, migraines are referred to as Ardhavabedhaka, characterized by intense, one-sided pain. While the exact causes remain unclear, both genetic and environmental factors play a significant role. Often, excessive stimulation of the brain and blood vessels can lead to discomfort. Ayurvedic texts highlight that an imbalance of Pitta and Vata is a key contributor.
Known as โ€˜Suryavartha Soola,โ€™ migraines are linked to the sunโ€™s cycles, with pain often intensifying with light and heat. Many experience headaches that begin at sunrise, peak by noon, and lessen by sunset. The nature of the migraine can vary based on individual constitution.
Common symptoms include pulsating headaches, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, and blurred vision. Physical activity may exacerbate the pain, and neglecting natural urges, especially sleep, can increase the likelihood of these episodes.
For relief, Ayurvedic practices such as Panchakarma are beneficial, especially after a personalized consultation. Techniques like Nasya therapy have a long history of support for those experiencing migraines.
Additionally, self-care strategies like deep breathing and mental imageryโ€”visualizing a peaceful placeโ€”can be effective in managing discomfort. ๐ŸŒผโœจ

Asthma, also known as bronchial asthma, is a disease that affects the lungs. It is a chronic condition, meaning it persists and requires ongoing medical management. Asthma is one of the most prevalent non-communicable diseases worldwide.
In Ayurveda, bronchial asthma is referred to as Svasa Roga, as explained in the Charaka Samhita. According to Ayurvedic principles, asthma results from an imbalance in the Vata and Kapha doshas. Symptoms associated with Vata Dosha include wheezing, dry mouth, thirst, dry cough, dry skin, anxiety, and constipation.
Asthma is characterized by narrowed and swollen airways in the chest, leading to difficulties in breathing, coughing, and a whistling sound (wheezing). Individuals may also experience shortness of breath. While the condition cannot be fully resolved, its symptoms can be managed effectively.
The heat generated from hot fomentation can help dissolve excess Kapha in the body. Applying warm sesame oil to the back and chest may alleviate symptoms.
Ayurvedic approaches to managing asthma focus on restoring balance, reducing inflammation, and strengthening lung function through therapies such as panchakarma and the use of herbs or herbal formulations. While panchakarma should be conducted in a clinical setting, herbs and lifestyle practices can be incorporated at home to support lung health.
