We were honoured to celebrate 40 years of community care at the Food Banks Mississauga warehouse yesterday. While we wish food insecurity were no longer an urgent concern in our community, we recognize and commend Food Banks Mississauga and their network of partners and volunteers for four decades of dedicated work to end hunger.

Peel Senior Link is grateful to be among those partners. Through our Food Bank 2 Home Delivery Program, in collaboration with Food Banks Mississauga, we deliver custom grocery orders directly to the doorsteps of homebound seniors who are unable to travel to a food bank.

As food insecurity continues to rise across Peel Region, our community must band together to ensure that everyone has access to nutritious, daily meals. We are inspired by the ongoing work of our neighbours at Mississauga Food Banks and look forward to continuing our shared efforts to ensure that access to food - a basic human right - is within reach for all.

Peel Senior Link congratulates Region of Peel and the Ontario Government on the announcement of new funding to expand overnight respite care at the Seniors Health and Wellness Village at Peel Manor: https://peelregion.ca/press-releases/peel-region-receives-funding-government-ontario-expand-overnight-respite-seniors-health-wellness

This investment comes at a critical time. With one in five Peel residents expected to be over 65 by 2041, the pressures put on caregivers and the broader health system continue to grow. More caregivers/care partners are navigating complex caregiving responsibilities, often with limited support.

Overnight respite services help reduce caregiver burnout and strengthen the ability of families to continue caring safely at home.

At Peel Senior Link, we see every day how essential strong partnerships and integrated community supports are to helping seniors live independently and with dignity. Strategic and meaningful investments like this are an important step in strengthening the care for older adults and caregivers across Peel.

We look forward to continuing to work alongside Peel Region and system partners to support seniors and caregivers throughout our community.

BRAMPTON, ON (April 9, 2026) – Peel Region is pleased to announce the Government of Ontario will provide $563,582 in start-up funding and $901,204 in annual funding to support ongoing overnight respite care at the Seniors Health and Wellness Village at Peel Manor.

April is Parkinson Awareness Month. 🌷

Many older adults in our communities manage complex health conditions while still wanting to stay active, independent, and involved in everyday life. Parkinson's is one condition that can have ripple effects, not only for the individual but also for care partners who support them.

At Peel Senior Link, we focus on helping seniors stay connected, maintain independence at home, and access the resources they need. This month, we take a moment to recognize the resilience of those living with Parkinson's and the importance of community support.

An incredible resource from our partners at the Region of Peel. As our population continues to age, access to supports that help seniors remain safely at home and connected to their communities is more important than ever. Together, we can support our aging family members and neighbours to live with dignity, independence, and a sense of belonging.

Peel’s older adult population is growing rapidly and becoming increasingly diverse. The Older Adults Story Map brings together key demographic information in an interactive webpage to help older adults and the organizations that serve them better understand their communities. The story map is one of many tools from Peel Region, particularly Health Services and the Peel Data Centre, to help use, analyze and understand data.

With more than 212,000 residents aged 65+, nearly 1 in 5 Peel residents projected to be 65+ by 2051, and a growing older adult dependency ratio, the story map also highlights the top diverse languages spoken by older adults in Peel.
