𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵! 🖤💚❤️💛This month, we honour Dr. Henry Thomas Sampson Jr., a trailblazer whose contributions span science, engineering, and culture.
He is best known as the co-inventor of the gamma-electric cell, a device that converts gamma radiation into electrical energy. This groundbreaking innovation advanced radiation detection and measurement, allowing safer and more efficient use of radioactive sources—a major milestone in nuclear science that still influences the field today.
Beyond this achievement, Dr. Sampson was the first African American in the U.S. to earn a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering, a STEAM innovator, author, and historian preserving African American contributions to culture and entertainment.
💡 Fun fact: many mistakenly thought he invented the cell phone—but his real contributions to radiation science are far more groundbreaking! 😉
At Stuart Hunt & Associates, we celebrate pioneers like Dr. Sampson, whose legacy continues to inspire radiation safety, engineering, and innovation.
