This Sunday, May 10th, we celebrate Mother’s Day! 🌹

Participants from all three centres have been working hard all week, preparing special gifts to celebrate some of the most special people in their lives, their mothers & mother figures.

No one demonstrates unconditional love, dedication, and strength the way a mother does. A big thank you from Luso to all the incredible mothers and mother figures who fill our lives with care and warmth, you deserve the utmost love and appreciation today and every day!

Luso Hamilton participants have been volunteering at HHamilton/Burlington SPCAsince December 2024, helping with everything from preparing bird feeders to creating activity mats for dogs. On occasion, some of these cuddly creatures even find their way over to Luso Hamilton for pet visits with all the participants!

Luso is always proud to collaborate with other local charitable organizations doing incredible work. Volunteering at SPCA gives our participants the opportunity to learn more about animals, build their creative skills, and further engage with the community in a meaningful way. We are grateful to be able to offer experiences like these, that encourage growth, confidence, and connection. Many thanks to Hamilton/Burlington SPCA for this opportunity!

Join us Saturday, May 9th at Luso Support Centre Peel for our Annual Open House! From 10am – 2pm, all families, caregivers, and community members are welcome to tour the Centre and explore our Day Program to learn more about the different programs and services that Luso offers.

Our participants engage in a wide range of enriching activities, including:
• Music, dance, theatre, creative arts, and physical activities
• Sensory experiences in state-of-art Snoezelen® Rooms
• Life skills such as cooking, baking, gardening, literacy, and technology training
• Interactive learning, community outings & integration, and much more!

Luso Day Programs are available from Monday to Friday, and staff look forward to sharing more details with you soon! We also provide short term Respite Care Program, with comfortable bedrooms and top-quality programming at Luso Toronto.

Luso Peel participants had a blast with Science Week! 🧪

Through different experiments, such as making oobleck & creating their very own erupting volcanos, they’ve had the opportunity to learn about different scientific principles including chemical reactions, states of matter, and liquid density while engaging in hands-on learning.

We love seeing the big smiles while big discoveries are made! All the while, fostering vital learning and supporting the personal development of our participants.

Saturday was Luso Toronto Centre’s Celebration of Abilities dinner and what a celebration it was! With 270 guests in attendance, the evening beautifully showcased talent, resilience, and the strength of our community.

Participants put on an amazing show with choreographed song and dance numbers they have been practicing for months. Their hard work was on full display as their performances brought joy to every single person in attendance. Congratulations to all the participants, their families, and staff whose dedication made this a truly unforgettable evening!

Many thanks to everyone who attended in support of Luso participants and to LLIUNA Local 183for hosting us! We are already looking forward to seeing the amazing show that Luso Toronto will put on next year ⭐️

In honour of Earth Day on April 22nd, participants at all three Luso Centres spent the day celebrating our big, beautiful home (and this incredible spring weather☀️) with gardening and earth-inspired crafts, including stained glass & suncatchers. A reminder that caring for our environment starts in small, meaningful ways💙🌎💚

Luso Hamilton participants have begun a new volunteering initiative with the EEva Rothwell Centrein their Community Clothing Room! Every Friday, they spend a few hours working with the team to sort & organize clothing donations, gaining valuable life skills, work experience, and an understanding of the importance of helping in our communities.

Eva Rothwell Centre is an organization aimed at supporting community members through the provision of essential services, including access to health and wellness supports, educational programming, and a place to belong.

Luso is proud to partner with amazing community organizations like this, who are focused on inclusion and accessibility, while giving our participants the opportunity to try new activities and grow their skills. We look forward to our continued partnership with the Eva Rothwell Centre!

Luso Toronto participants are keeping it sweet by making homemade gummy bears! They had a great time measuring, mixing, and moulding their treats, and of course, eating them too.

Workshops like these aren’t just about making candy, they’re about building skills, fostering independence, and celebrating the achievements of our participants.

Turn your spring cleaning into support for Luso Centres.. and engage in a little fun competition while you’re at it!

Luso Support Centres Hamilton & Peel are collecting donations of gently used clothing, housewares, books, and toys to raise funds for outings and other day program activities during the summer months. Let’s see which Centre can collect the most donations before the end of May!

Email us at info@lusoccs.org to arrange a time to drop-off your items. Donations will be accepted until Friday, May 29th. Please be mindful and make sure all donated items are in good condition, avoiding anything stained or broken.

Gather up those clothes in the back of your closet or those old boxes in the basement and purge with a purpose!
