So you want to get rid of bloating🎈?Try these 4 strategies ⬇️

Bloating is among the TOP complaints from my patients and it was DEFINITELY my biggest complaint too. I used to say I felt like a stuffed sausage in my own skin🥴...it was horrible to say the least. I used these 4 strategies on a daily basis for many months and now I have the freedom to live without bloating.

1️⃣ STIMULATE DIGESTION.
You’d be surprised to know how many of my patients have low stomach acid (not high, even those on PPIs.. story for another day), low digestive enzymes, and slow motility.

2️⃣FOOD STUDY
Do you even know what triggers your bloating? If you are like I was, I felt like EVERYTHING made me bloated and I had no sense of my diet. Tracking strategically gives the insight you need.

3️⃣MEDITATION
But also mindfulness and mind work in general. Your mind and gut are closely linked. Don’t underestimate the power your thoughts and mood have on your body, especially your gut.

4️⃣REBALANCE THE GUT
I saved the best for last - you all know how much I love the microbiome. Microorganisms are living things that consume food and create waste. In this case, there can be “too much of a good thing”. Other bad organisms release toxins, while others secrete harmful gasses. This leads to a complex cascade affecting multiple areas of healthy GI physiology, but definitely results in bloating.

Neither step is more important than the other.. Each pillar is needed in order to have a balanced, bloat-free belly :)

Make sure to save this for later so you don’t forget about these pillars!

IT’S A GURL THANG

To be honest, being a woman is HARD. I was talking with a male patient today about hormones and I realized what a complex experience hormones can be for a woman. Every month they go through a delicate cycle of rise and fall to prepare our bodies to grow babies, only to be thrown away and begin again. What a trusting process within our bodies. Despite this beautiful ability, our hormones often cause massive disruptions for us because, well, if you have a period every month of your life and it SUCKS then that’s going to play a pretttty big role on your physical and mental health.
This week is all about digestion, but did you know that we go through a third phase of estrogen detoxification in our GUT?
The small intestine is actually the first site where xenobiotics and non-nutrient contributing food components end up. The anti porter system, often called Phase III detoxification, exists of proteins that lie inside the lining of the intestine and pump xenobiotics into the intestinal tract (much like the liver does with toxins in the bile ducts) so they can be excreted in 💩. This process is actually key in reducing the amount of toxins that the liver has to process

Clostridium perfringens, Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella species are bacteria in the gut that make an enzyme called beta-glucoronidase. Bacterial dysbiosis results in increased beta-glucoronidase production. When the liver process xenobiotics and hormones, it “tags” them and sends it for elimination. This enzyme will take off the tag, signaling for the body to reabsorb that compound. We know that this activity increases the risk for certain cancers such as breast and colon cancer

So when it comes to supporting your menstrual cycle and getting rid of your pesky PMS or focusing on fertility, remember to pay attention to the microbiome!
Ps thankful for these beautiful women who made birthday a weekend to remember .

Digestive health is the mainstay of my practice because I believe 1) all disease begins in the gut and 2) IBS sucks! Many underestimate the key role digestion plays in neurochemical formation, dermatological conditions like , and , hormonal issues like , , and , , , , , and chronic nutrient deficiencies like

The gut is the root of absorption and elimination and it must operate optimally in order to slow for key pathways and processes to occur in the body

A lack of nutrients, highly inflammatory, processed foods, antibiotic use, chronic stress and alcohol all contribute to massive disruptions causing possible long term side effects

Tonight at 6:30pm EST, Natalie over at the and I are going live to talk and some common Q&A we get about digestive health and some practical tips you can incorporate to actually start feeling and pooping better

See you there! And hello gut week 😍😍

What happens when a Reishi, Turkey Tail, and Cordyceps all sleep in the same bed?
There isn’t mushroom 🍄🙃

I love coffee and it’s something that brings me pure joy, but I don’t always use the best quality coffee on a daily basis so I’ve been on the hunt to try and find one that supports my long game goals

Mushroom coffee isn’t new, but when I got a chance to talk to the founders of Ryze, they mentioned 3 main advantages

1. They put 6 different mushrooms in their blend to maximize the adaptogenic health aspect of this coffee

2. Using MCT soil gives it a much creamier texture (this I would agree with) so it tastes smoother and less like black coffee

3. Their cost per serving is more affordable. Now if you’re buying from Canada keep in mind conversion so this may not be the case. But it’ll equivalent to Tim Hortons but much better quality

Additionally, their mushrooms are organic! Which I love. The MCT and coffee beans are not yet but that’s the best step

Honesty, I think this coffee is worth the try! It comes from the USA so it’ll take some time to arrive. ✨They were lovely enough to extend a discount code to you all - use RENATA10 at checkout to save 10%

How do you take your coffee? I usually put almond milk and a bit of honey❤️

✨CASTOR OIL MAGIK✨
This thick, luscious oil is honestly a magical topical therapy. I’ve recommended it in practice and used it myself for years. Yesterday in my story, I posted that I was doing a castor oil pack and I got some good questions about how to use it and how it works

The active component in castor oil (ricinic acid) stimulates the production of T-cells in the skin that can have both a local and system effect on up-regulating the immune system

This means that it’s helpful for LOCAL ailments like:
- Styes
- Acne (I LOVE this for deep, cystic type acne)
- Minor skin abrasions/infections

Because of its LYMPHATIC and ANTI-INFLAMMATORY properties, it works really well for things like:
- Fibrocystic breasts
- Abdominal pain
- IBS
- Swollen ankles
- Menstrual cramping
- Constipation
- Liver detoxification and lymphatic drainage

Castor oil “packs” are super easy to do.
1. Slather it all over your belly/affected area
2. Hot pack/hot water bottle/warm, damp towel over
3. Chill for 30-45 minutes
4. Go to bed!

I personally don’t wash it off and have never found it to stain clothes/bedding but wear something you’re okay ruining. It absorbs in the skin nicely! I also add castor oil to my homemade face oils

Have you tried them? What do you think of your castor oil experience?

Welcome to Friday - we did it!🙌🏻
There have been many patient appointments this week and lots of tests to review, but when I work too fast I find myself starting to feel burnt out. That’s my reminder that ☝🏻I need to emphasize my self care
Today in my stories, I shared that this morning I decided to slow down, and today’s active self care took the form of dry floral/grass arrangements and DIYs.

When it comes to regular self care, there are a few things I’ve been making a real effort on to incorporate on a daily basis:
DRY BRUSHING: I love this little element of my evening routine; it improves lymphatic drainage, has helped with my skin feel much smoother as well
EARY BEDTIME: ok so maybe this is one I’m STILL trying to be diligent about but general speaking I’m aiming for bedtime around 11-11:30. This is shocking because I used to stay up well until 2am. I’ve noticed I feel more energized overall and I’ve noticed that the odd late night results in general hypoglycemia and more of a desire to snack the next day
DAILY READING: I used to LOVE reading but I stopped making time for it. I am obsessed with learning new things, so various non-fictional books keep my brain cells happy. 📚 Current read: Unf your Brain by Faith G. Harper (thanks boyfriend)
NIGHTLY MEDITATION: I have a hard time sleeping at night (maybe also why I’ve always stayed up late to avoid sleep) because my mind is racing. has been part of my nightly routine for the last 5 months and it’s been amazing to help me sleep and to also learn techniques to quiet my little monkey brain for some good zzz
Small, daily habits are the building blocks for a good health foundation. They create structure and a mental reminder that self care is always important!

This series is dedicated to those struggling with IBS - I want to break down how exactly I use testing to show my patients WHY they have symptoms and HOW we can begin to restore their gut health!
Digestive health issues are the main thing I see in my practice and testing has given me valuable information into the valuable but unseen details of the health of the digestive tract. Today, we’re talking about where I begin when running a stool test!

The three things you need to do for sunburn care🦞
I made a mistake.. a noob mistake. I got excited about being at the cottage and I forgot to put on sunscreen🙈. Here are the three things I made sure to do to take care of my poor lobster body 😂
1️⃣ ANTI-INFLAMMATORY - sunburns occur in the epidermis of the skin, causing lots of inflammation and pain. Using an anti-inflammatory combo like this used herbs and enzymes that modulate the inflammatory cascade and increase lymphatic drainage
2️⃣ SKIN CARE - while this is usually the first and only step people take for sunburns, it’s still essential. Aloe gel mixed with a few drops of peppermint oil offers the perfect combo of soothing, vulnerary, healing properties with a cooling sensation to quell painful skin
3️⃣ HYDRATION - the skin is a barrier that helps regulate heat. While dehydration might not occur with a first degree sunburn, the skin barrier is still compromised and the skin temperature is hotter, meaning that staying hydrated is essential
Getting adequate, full sun exposure is key for vitamin D formation, however preventing burns is important. Titrate your sun exposure based on your skin type and current tan level so that you can enjoy the summer sun ☀️
