“You are never starting over, you are always starting from experience”.

Tonight I returned to hot yoga after having to take almost a year off to properly rehab an old injury that became a storage site for tension and pain.
When I got to the only spot left in a full room this little note was on the floor directly in front of my mat. 😭✨

It was really hard to stop doing yoga, something my spirit and body crave in so many ways but would also trigger pain and symptoms in the days after. I finally listened to my care providers and took a break, did the slow work and tonight I was back and pain-free.

I know I’m not alone in what took me so long to change what I was doing….

Our nervous system will always steer us towards a familiar suffering, over unfamiliar ease.

Read that again☝️

Yoga was what I have always done for 20+ years. It’s what I love doing, and it’s “supposed to be good for me”. But it wasn’t. Not until I healed my old injuries. I had to stop doing the forms of exercise that I’ve always done to make room for my healing. I had to embrace the unfamiliar movement forms and finally listen to what my body needs now.

Are you holding yourself in habits and lifestyle choices that contribute to your ‘unwellness’ simply because they are familiar, what you’ve always done or known?

We are here to support you in your journey of growth and healing

It is an honour to create space, and provide the education and attention women deserve for their healing. To remind you that you deserve to be cared for and to pour into your own cup first, not so that you can pour into other’s, but because you are worthy of being full.

I have been caring for women in health and wellness for nearly 20 years. When I started my practice over 11 years ago, I noticed that when it came to their health concerns or goals many women new WHAT to do, some knew why things were this way, but few knew HOW to do “the things” with consistency – the nutrition pieces, movement, lifestyle habits, etc., and even fewer gave themselves permission to make room for these pieces of self-care.

I focused a lot of my care on the WHY of the what. WHY you have headaches, WHY you are bloated, WHY you have insomnia. This is root cause medicine, and I still practice that. But I learned to add the piece that has a greater impact on a person's healing than anything else - the WHY of the how. “The HOW”are the changes we are going to make to our nutrition, lifestyle, the medicine we take to heal the WHAT. And WHY we are implementing these changes is the keystone to transforming, and to healing all of the parts of you.

when we come from this place,
dieting becomes nourishing
exercise becomes movement
finding the time becomes CLAIMING and protecting the time
Should become wants, needs, like-to’s

When we flip the script, it looks like:

-going to bed by 10pm not because you SHOULD, but because you are worthy of rest and deserve the most restorative sleep

-moving your body not to burn calories or as punishment for what you ate or how much body fat you have but because your body is designed to move and feels best when it does.

-having a protein smoothie upon waking because you deserve to feel nourished, stable. You deserve to experience life with energy

This is what self-love and kindness in care looks like and it starts with knowing you're worthy.

The answer?

Yep, you can drink the bits 👍

Our Naturopathic Doctors often custom blend or recommend from our in-house line of organic loose leaf teas. They are loose leaf on purpose (less processing, better flavour and medicinal value) and you’ll often find some pieces of herbs in the bottom of your mug. We get asked, “can I drink the bits?”… yep ☺️

Resilience is a barometer of Health.

It’s not measured by how we withstand the perfect circumstances. It’s our bounce back, our tolerance, our ability to withstand the challenges and curveballs we are bound to face.

December is my wild month, has been for 7 years. It’s always the busiest time of the year in the clinic with our clients using up insurance coverage before the end of the year, the holidays to prepare for, we run our Maple Syrup Mission for The Compass, this year we also hosted a Holiday Market, and 7 years ago in December I became a Mama to one of my sweetest gifts in Life. And I love to celebrate him 🫶

I know this about December, so when I headed into that month I maintained a few key pieces to preserve my resilience. I’m bringing them into January and stacking on. Join me 😉

Cold showers. I use hydrotherapy as medicine in my practice but this particular form changed my energy and increased my resilience, so now it’s a non-negotiable in my day. If you want to try it, start by turning your shower to cold at the end and count to 30. You’ll notice the difference immediately!

My morning herbal mix of Echinacea, Panax Ginseng, Elderberry, and Vitamin C. I don’t always take the same herbs year-round. This mix is the best fit for me right now for energy as well as immune and adrenal support.

High protein in the morning. I would have at least 45g by 10am (my day starts at 6am). This helps stabilize my blood sugar and energy, and reduce cravings for foods that don’t fuel me especially later in the day/evening

Lastly, trusting in my ability to adapt, figure it out, and be resilient. If you wake up in the morning and the words you speak to yourself include dread and doubt - “I can’t do this”, you will likely be right. Every morning I start my day with positive affirmations and choose to be my biggest cheerleader.

What habits will be your non-negotiables for 2024?

What are you protecting?

Are you preserving elements of your diet, lifestyle, schedule, thought patterns, or environment that keep you unwell?

These elements are the impedance you feel when you struggle toward your goals.

“The resistance you feel is equal to the magnitude of the change that is possible.”

When I’m working with you, we pause and make room for the part of you that feels the resistance. We consider if it feels protective, if it still serves a purpose. When it no longer does and you acknowledge that, you can let it go much easier. Now you have spaces to move into with your new habits and choices. You heal in those spaces.

Let 2024 be a year of understanding your health and prioritizing it.

Let it be the year of less resistance.
