A new TD Economics report says Canada’s decision to scale back immigration levels is already reshaping the economy — and for the better. With population growth dropping to 0.9%, the slowdown is allowing housing, labour, and public infrastructure to catch up after years of strain.
🏠 Rents projected to rise just 3–3.5% in 2026, compared to nearly double in 2024.
💼 Job markets are stabilizing, with fewer vacancies and unemployment staying below 8%.
📉 Economists call this a “temporary pause for balance,” helping Canada build a more sustainable future while keeping immigration central to long-term growth.

Confusion clouds Ottawa as immigration officials remain unsure if the 2026–2028 immigration levels plan will be fully revealed in next week’s federal budget. Despite Carney’s promise to “get immigration under control,” insiders say even top officials don’t know whether the plan will include full targets or just partial data.
Opposition MPs are calling it a “lack of transparency”, warning that uncertainty could disrupt settlement programs and strain public confidence amid growing debate over immigration levels.
🕐 Deadline: Nov. 1, 2025
📉 Target: Cut temporary residents from 7% ➡️ 5% by 2026
🏛️ Critics demand clarity before key funding decisions

In a landmark move to strengthen equality and safety, the federal government has announced $660.5 million over five years for the Department for Women and Gender Equality (WAGE) as part of Budget 2025. The funding, unveiled by Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne and Minister Rechie Valdez, will empower women, girls, and gender-diverse Canadians through three key initiatives:

💼 $382.5M to enhance women’s economic security and leadership opportunities.

🏳️‍🌈 $54.6M to support 2SLGBTQI+ communities, including $7.5M for Pride Security.

🛡️ $223.4M to strengthen Canada’s response to gender-based violence, particularly for Indigenous and underserved populations.

The government says these investments will “build safer, more inclusive communities” and ensure every Canadian can contribute to the nation’s growth.

Canada’s youth are facing their toughest job market in over a decade. According to Statistics Canada, the youth unemployment rate hit 15% in September 2025, marking the highest level since 2010 (excluding pandemic years). With 15% fewer job vacancies than last year, competition has skyrocketed — even for entry-level or minimum-wage roles.
Many young Canadians say they’ve submitted dozens or even hundreds of applications without success. The federal government says it’s responding through the new Workforce Alliance, aimed at upskilling youth and creating “career pathways that last.”

💬 “It’s really hard to get a minimum-wage job,” said 16-year-old Alexandra from Calgary, who applied nearly 100 times before finding work.
