Burnout can look like doing everything “right” and still feeling depleted.

Sometimes it’s not the amount you’re doing, but how much you’re carrying as you do it.

These questions are a way to slow down and check in with yourself. It isn't to fix anything, but just to notice what’s happening and how to add a bit of support.

If you were to lighten even one thing this week, what would it be?

To pause instead of react.
To feel instead of numb.
To take responsibility without taking on shame.

Choosing to heal does not mean it is easy.
It means you are no longer abandoning yourself.

Stress does not always look like falling apart. ⬇️

Sometimes it looks like over-functioning. Saying yes when you are exhausted. Struggling to access creativity. Feeling overstimulated by normal levels of noise. Apologizing constantly. Not fully feeling joy even when something good happens.

When your nervous system has been under pressure for a while, it shifts into protection mode. It becomes more focused on scanning, managing, performing, and getting through the day. That can quietly narrow your emotional range and drain your capacity for play, pleasure, and spontaneity.

A lot of people minimize these signs because they still seem “high functioning.” But functioning and feeling well are not the same thing.

If you have been noticing subtle changes in yourself lately, that is information. Your system might be asking for support, not more self-criticism.

It’s already been a long winter, and we still have a little bit to go.

If you’re feeling more tired, more withdrawn, or heavier in your mood lately, you’re not alone.

February is often when Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) peaks. The shorter days have accumulated. The novelty of winter has worn off. Your system has been adjusting to reduced daylight for months.

Energy can dip. Sleep can shift. Motivation can feel harder to access. Mood can flatten.

If this season consistently impacts you, it is worth paying attention to the pattern. Support can help, even before the weather changes.

Trauma isn’t defined by how “big” an event looks from the outside.

It’s defined by how your nervous system experienced safety, threat, and support at the time.

Many people minimize their own experiences by comparing them to others—telling themselves it wasn’t bad enough or others had it worse. From a nervous system perspective, this comparison interrupts healing. Minimization reinforces the same lack of safety the system adapted to in the first place.

Healing begins when experiences are taken seriously, not measured against someone else’s.

Meet our clinical psychotherapy intern, Ali Muhammad:

Hi, I’m Ali!

As a therapist, I strive to create a space where people feel they can be their authentic selves without fear of judgment or criticism. This means open communication, active listening, and a collaboration on goals towards your well-being.

I believe one of the most important parts of therapy is how connected you feel to your therapist! Therefore, in sessions, I aim to provide a space where you feel empowered, seen, and understood. All emotions, even our most difficult ones, deserve space and that through processing our difficult emotions, we are able to heal.

I would love to work together to build a space of trust and partnership between us. Having faced several life challenges myself, such as grief and trauma, I am no stranger to being on the other side of therapy and have benefited greatly from it. I do not take a person’s vulnerability for granted and would be honoured to be a part of your journey!
