Breast Cancer Conference — reflections from a human-centered lens.
I
ncredible science.
Advanced technology.
Detailed data on microscopic tissue changes.
And yet — the patient was missing.
We talk about pre- and post-menopause, but not enough about what it really means:
hormonal change, adaptation, and a window for prevention.
We talk about screening, but we don’t individualize it.
Women with dense, cystic breast tissue are often offered painful, limited options like mammography — even when advanced tools exist.
Why are these used after cancer is found, not before?
Why is patient choice met with fear and liability instead of support and education?
Patient voices were present — five minutes each.
Five minutes to summarize a life-changing journey.
Doctors are essential and highly skilled.
But many patients leave treatment without guidance for after:
• physical rehab
• nutrition
• mental health support
• nervous system regulation
• community
Survival rates may be high — but the “what if” remains.
And that question drains people.
Women’s health deserves more than survival.
It deserves prevention, education, and care for the whole human.
Healthcare must work together and with patients — not just for them. 🩷
