Ever wondered what a bone anchored hearing system is?
We've got the answer:
A bone anchored hearing system consists of a small implant that is surgically placed in the skull in the temporal and mastoid bone area (behind the ear). A sound processor captures sound in much the same way as a conventional hearing aid.
However, instead of sound transmission through the ear canal via air conduction, it transforms the sound into vibrations that are transmitted via the implant through the skull bone directly into the cochlea (the inner ear.) In this way, bone anchored hearing devices uses the body’s natural ability to conduct sound via the bone.

Tips for Traveling Safely this Summer with Your Ponto 🛂
When traveling with a bone anchored hearing system like the Ponto™, there are a few things to consider:
✔️ Bring the Ponto Implant Card with you and inform airport security that you have an implanted device prior to passing through security. The TSA agent will also advise on whether you may keep the sound processor on, or not. If needed, you can download a spare implant card from our website.
✔️ When traveling by plane, turn on the flight mode on the sound processor to disable Bluetooth® during takeoff and landings.
✔️ If you would like to watch movies or listen to music, be sure to have extra batteries and accessories readily available.

Start your journey to better hearing!
Unlock the world of sound with Oticon Medical's advanced hearing solutions. Gaining a clear understanding of the stages involved in the Bone Anchored Hearing System (BAHS) journey can give you the confidence to make a well-informed decision when choosing to proceed with BAHS. Learn about the process:
1️⃣ Evaluation: Your healthcare provider will assess if a bone anchored hearing solution (BAHS) is a suitable option for you
2️⃣ Try it out: You will test a BAHS on a softband or headband and listen to the different sound environments in your daily life.
3️⃣ Decide on treatment: Discuss and decide with your healthcare provider what the best solution is for you.
4️⃣ Surgical procedure: The surgical procedure usually takes less than an hour. Depending on the implant type chosen, the procedure can take less than 15 minutes under local anaesthesia.
5️⃣ Healing: Following the surgical procedure, you can resume your normal activities. 7-10 days after, the dressing will be removed from the implant site.
6️⃣ Fitting of sound processor: Once fully healed, the sound processor is fitted by your audiologist and you can start to use it.
