Your eyes may help detect early signs of Alzheimer’s...

New research is exploring how a type of eye imaging (called OCT-A) can reveal tiny changes in the blood vessels of the retina that may be linked to brain health. Scientists have developed a standardized way to use this technology in large population studies, bringing us one step closer to earlier detection of Alzheimer’s and related dementias.

Study Quantifies Link Between Poor Adherence and Subpar Outcomes in DME
In the aggregate, those who maintained the appropriate anti-VEGF regimen improved by 3.6 letters vs. those who didn’t, as complications were more likely among the latter.

The lower the rate of adherence, the higher the rate of complications. Patients who adhered to their regimen presented with a retinal detachment rate of 3.2%, compared to 3.4% from other patients. Those same compliant patients presented with a vitrectomy rate of 7.2%, compared to 7.7% from other patients. This trend continued for rates of neovascular glaucoma, with compliant patients presenting with a rate of 0.6% compared to 1% from other patients.

On April 8th, some Canadian regions, spanning from Southern Ontario to Newfoundland and Labrador, will experience a total solar eclipse with the rest of Canada experiencing a partial eclipse.

So... What’s the difference between a partial and a full eclipse? 🌒🌞

Partial Solar Eclipse: The Moon partially covers the Sun, but it does not completely block it. A portion of the Sun remains visible as a bright crescent or as a partially obscured disk. Eclipse viewers/glasses must be worn at all times when looking at a partial eclipse. 😎

Full/Total Solar Eclipse: The Sun's bright disk is entirely obscured by the Moon, and the Sun's outer atmosphere, known as the solar corona, becomes visible as a glowing halo around the dark disk of the Moon. A total solar eclipse is a rare and awe-inspiring event, and it typically lasts only a few minutes at a specific location along the eclipse path. 🌕🌑

Be careful! The ONLY time when it is safe to remove your eclipse glasses is during totality. During these few minutes, the Sun’s surface is completely blocked by the Moon and the corona is safe to look at directly. In fact, if you keep your glasses during totality, you will miss the best show since you won’t see anything! Make sure to put your glasses back on as soon as the Sun reappears from behind the Moon. 😊🌞
