Today, we wear red dresses to remember and honour the lives of Indigenous women, girls, and Two‑Spirit people who have been taken by violence and to stand with families and communities who continue to seek justice and healing. The red dress is a powerful symbol: a call to action, a reminder of the lives lost, and a commitment to end gender‑based and colonial violence. As educators and union members, we reaffirm our responsibility to create spaces of safety, truth, and reconciliation. We listen, learn, and act because every life deserves dignity, respect, and remembrance.

This means listening deeply, challenging bias, and ensuring our spaces reflect the diversity of South Asian identities and experiences.

International Workers’ Day reminds us that progress has never been given. It has always been won through courage, organizing, and collective struggle. Today we honour workers past and present, and continue to fight for equity, safety, and justice in every workplace. When workers rise together, we change what’s possible.
