***The Heart of The Matter***

Heart disease is the 2nd leading cause of deaths in Canada. About 1 in 15 Canadian adults age 20 and over live with ischemic heart disease. The Ayurvedic approach to heart disease is to identify foundational imbalances that can result in heart disease and correct the imbalance through proper diet and nutrition along with different therapies.

AAC is super delighted to have Dr. Vineeta Ahooja MD, FACC, FASE deliver a keynote speech on 'Heart of The Matter' to get into the depth of your heart health.

This presentation will delve deep into our relationship with food and how cardiac health is affected by our diets. It will also focus on dispelling myths regarding cholesterol and will provide insight on how to embrace Ayurveda to keep your heart healthy.

Dr. Ahooja is a cardiologist in the greater Toronto area with board certifications in adult cardiology, internal medicine, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, and cardiac CT. She has a special focus in advanced cardiac imaging. Her training has spanned four countries where she has had the opportunity to practice under various health care systems and treated conditions of a variety of demographics. She has completed her Bachelors at the University of Toronto, Medical degree at the University of West Indies and Kasturba Medical college in India, and residency and fellowship at Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan. She is a key opinion leader in cardiovascular medicine. In addition, she has trained in Ayurvedic Medicine in 2014 and 2015 at Caish in Toronto.

***Do you want to learn about the Genius of How Ayurveda Categorizes Food and Spices???***

The Ayurvedic perspective of diet and nutrition is completely different from the modern view of counting calories or your macros like carbs, proteins, and fats. Ayurveda has a holistic view on looking at food from a perspective of doshas, rasa (tastes), gunas (qualities), etc so that the food is compatible with your body, your geographical location, the season and your Agni or digestive capacity.

To elaborate on this amazing topic, the AAC is super delighted to have Dr.Pankaj Seth, ND deliver a keynote speech on 'The Genius of How Ayurveda Categorizes Food and Spices'.

Speaker Bio:
Dr. Pankaj Seth is a Naturopathic Doctor in Toronto with a focus on Ayurveda, Pranayama, Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. In practice for 25 years, he also utilizes Homeopathy, Western Medical Herbalism, Clinical Nutrition and Bodywork. In addition, Dr. Seth has taught Yoga/Meditation for over 20 years and has just completed a film on the mystical teachings of Yoga, Soma: The Yogic Quest.

Synopsis: With a Yoga-enhanced awareness, the ancient rishis/seers brought forward the knowledge of Ayurveda for the benefit of humanity. They discerned the qualities of a vast number of foodstuffs as well as the framework within which this knowledge has been utilized for thousands of years. In this presentation, Dr. Seth will discuss the qualities of numerous foods as they pertain to correcting imbalances in the body/mind, showing how easily and effectively it is possible to continuously regain balance through one's dietary choices.

***The Missing Bits: Nutrition in Ayurveda***

During the modern era the terms "information" and "knowledge" have become more or less synonymous, and a chasm has emerged between practical knowledge and what can be read on the internet or learned from a book. A century of academia coupled with the abandonment of traditional practices has meant that many practical details of nutrition have been glossed over and missed.

It is our great honour that Todd Caldecott, Dip. Cl.H., RH(AHG), the author of 'Food as Medicine: Thory & Practice of Food' will present ' The Missing Bts: Nutrition in Ayurveda'. This lecture reviews traditional dietary practices in Ayurveda, and contrasts these with modern practices and beliefs. Practical issues related to different foods and their methods of preparations will be discussed, with important implications for both modern Ayurveda and conventional nutrition.

Todd Caldecott is a medical herbalist and practitioner of Ayurveda. He has been in practice since 1995, and since 2002 has maintained a working relationship with the 800 year old Bajracharya lineage of Ayurveda, in Kathmandu, Nepal. He is the author of Food As Medicine, editor of Ayurveda In Nepal, and in 2014 was the visiting Mitchell Scholar at Bastyr University. Todd is the Director of the Dogwood School of Botanical which provides online classes in Ayurveda and nutrition, as well as overseas training, and opportunities for clinical mentorship.
