Did you know that I treat Diastasis Re**us Abdominis (DRA). DRAs are the separation of the re**us abdominis muscles (abs) often seen after pregnancy. By treating the muscles and the surrounding soft tissue we can help guide the muscles back together. As a matter of fact we can sometimes see an improvements after just one treatment!

Here are some of the benefit to paediatric massage in school aged kids.

Paediatric massage can benefit children not only by reliving muscular tension and improving range of motion but by also helping children have a better understanding of their bodies. Also, they will start to develop an understanding of what consent is. During their first massage they learn about consent to touch by a verbal explanation and in some cases they are asked to draw on a body chart the areas they allow their massage therapist to touch. They are made clear that they are in full control and are able to chose to finish the session early if desired.

Cupping can be used on your quadriceps to help with fascial restriction, muscle tension and decreased range of motion. To further help with flexibility, stretches can be done while the cups are applied. You can see here a few examples of stretches for the quadriceps. There are many variations to these stretches that can be used to best fit the clients need and abilities.

Hey! Did you know that I’ll be teaching Core Kick at Reconnect Health Center starting this April?

This is a Karate inspired fitness class.

Why Karate?

I have a long history with Karate. I have my third degree black belt and my father is a grand master sensei that has taught karate classes at his club in Miramichi for over 40 years. I enjoyed teaching classes along side him and I miss the empowerment martial arts gave me. With my background in kinesiology and in massage therapy, I’ve taken a new spin on the traditional karate class and making it my own. Core Kick will incorporate a lot of the basics of karate training, but will focus primarily on the fitness aspects. The goal of this class will be to improve core strength, flexibility, hip stability, balance and to help women feel strong and empowered.

Currently the class is full, but we are taking names on a waitlist. If there’s enough interest, I’d be more than happy to run another class.

Sternocleidomastoid muscle 😅AKA that muscle that pops out of the front of my neck.

I love mentioning this muscles, it makes me sounds so smart 😂!

The reason I often treat this muscle is primarily due to its actions. This muscle brings the head forward and is one of the main muscle that does neck rotation. That being said it is used a whole lot. In addition, when it get tight and unhappy it can refer pain to the base of the head, throat, eye, sinus, cheek and eyebrow. Some of these are common areas where people feel tension headaches so it’s important to incorporate it into the massage treatment.

Cupping for the common shoulder and neck tension.

On top of just placing static cups to the area of discomfort, did you know adding movement can help get a deeper stretch and better range of motion.

These cups are placed following the Upper Trapezius. To add the bonus stretch you can bring your opposite ear to your shoulder or tuck your chin towards your opposite hip.
