Over the past decade, Canadian math scores on the Program of International Student Assessment (PISA) and Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) have declined in all provinces. Parents often wonder about phones - when should I allow my child to have one or how do I not permit one in a society where most other parents are providing this to their children? How do I set boundaries and safety around phone use? What is healthy and unhealthy phone usage? Here is a podcast and transcript discussing some of these topics. Listen or read, as you wish.

Some parents think - I’m not giving my child a phone, so I don’t need to consider this. A tablet or any internet access provides your child the same exposures, so have similar considerations.
