CHEO’s leadership team stepped out of the halls of the children’s hospital and into the donor chair this month. Led by CHEO CEO Dr. Vera Etches, the CHEO Partners for Life contributed towards our goal of 1 million new donors! As leaders in pediatric healthcare, the CHEO team knows how important donors are to the children that they work with everyday – for some, it was their first time, for all, it was deeply rewarding. At the start of one life, you could save another! Donating cord blood is safe, simple, and doesn’t change your birth plan – including delayed cord clamping. Cord blood is collected from the placenta after birth, and if it’s not donated, it’s thrown away as medical waste.

When cord blood is collected and banked with the Canadian Blood Services Cord Blood Bank, it is available to anyone in Canada and around the world who may be looking for a lifesaving stem cell match.

"Today’s visit to the Moncton blood clinic ended with a big dose of bonus joy! 🥹

I was their last appointment of the day and they were celebrating the retirement and last shift of one of their team members. ✨

As I was picking out my snacks, they all gathered for a group picture. I offered to take the pic so that everyone could be included! They were so thankful and so sweet. 💖

The team at the Moncton clinic are truly the best and each time I get to visit is genuinely such a joy from start to finish!"
