SAFIR: The First Moroccan Hammam in Atlantic Canada – An Immersion in Tradition and Well-Being
Moncton, New Brunswick – [11/25/2024] – We are excited to announce the upcoming opening of Safir Moroccan Hammam & Spa in Moncton, the first Moroccan hammam in Atlantic Canada.
This new relaxation space promises to offer residents and visitors an authentic and revitalizing experience rooted in the ancient traditions of Morocco.
“The Moroccan hammam is a millennia-old tradition of purification and relaxation for both body and mind”, said Mrs Hiba Benjelloun, co-founder and general manager of Safir. The hammams are steam baths traditionally used to cleanse the body. Visitors begin by applying black soap in a soothing steam bath that prepares the skin for a deep cleanse.
Next, an exfoliating scrub using a kessa glove is performed to remove dead skin cells, rejuvenate the skin, stimulate blood circulation, and drain the lymphatic system. The process concludes with relaxing treatments and massages, including the application of oils for a complete sense of well-being.
“The Moroccan hammam is also a social space where people gather to share moments of conviviality in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Our establishment aims to recreate this ambiance by offering modern facilities while honoring authentic traditions”, added Mrs Benjelloun.
Ms. Dawn Arnold, Mayor of the City of Moncton, welcomed this new project with enthusiasm: “We are thrilled to see unique projects like Safir taking shape in Moncton. Safir is a great example of how newcomers are contributing to the economic prosperity of our community and to the well-being of our citizens.”
Located at Three Sisters in the heart of downtown Moncton, John Lafford, owner of the real estate project, also supports this initiative: “The arrival of Safir Moroccan Hammam &
Spa within our Three Sisters development is a wonderful opportunity to enrich the experience of our residents and visitors. We are proud to contribute to the growth of the wellness sector while integrating a facility that exudes elegance and serenity.”
Safir is the project of Hiba Benjelloun and Ben Champoux, cultural, tourism and economic development specialist in the region. “Safir means ‘ambassador’ in Arabic, a great traveler who represents and shares a message, a culture with others. Safir symbolizes our role as ambassadors of Moroccan wellness traditions, bringing the essence of this unique cultural experience to our ‘travelers’ in Atlantic Canada,” says Mr. Champoux. “The Safir team is eager to welcome the Greater Moncton community to discover the benefits of the Moroccan Hammam and to offer them an unforgettable sensory journey”, he adds.
