September is Nutrition Month: Rethinking the Way We See Food
As September arrives and new “year” begins for many, it’s the perfect time to reset routines, return to structure, and refocus on our health and wellness. That’s why we’re celebrating Nutrition Month here at CrossFit Moncton.
One of the most important shifts we can make is in how we think about food. Too often, foods get labeled as “good” or “bad.” This black-and-white thinking can lead to guilt, stress, or even avoiding foods we actually enjoy. The truth is, nutrition works best when we see foods on a spectrum rather than as absolutes. Every food can fit into a balanced lifestyle—it’s more about how often and how much we choose it.
Think of your choices as steps along a scale:
• Everyday staples like vegetables, fruit, lean proteins, beans, whole grains, and healthy fats form the foundation of long-lasting energy, strength, and disease prevention.
• Sometimes foods—like sweets, fried foods, or highly processed snacks—can be enjoyed without guilt when balanced with nourishing meals.
• Small swaps—such as choosing water instead of soda, or adding an extra serving of vegetables to dinner—can make a big difference over time.
The goal isn’t perfection. It’s about making choices that help you feel and function your best today, while also supporting your health for years to come. By letting go of the “good” vs. “bad” food mindset, we make space for sustainable habits that fit into real life.
This September, try focusing on progress over perfection: add color to your plate, listen to your body’s cues, and celebrate the small steps that add up to better health and wellness.
