💙 Supporting Independence: The Vital Role of Occupational Therapists
Every October, we celebrate Occupational Therapy Month in Canada - a time to recognize the incredible professionals who help people of all ages live life to the fullest. But what exactly do Occupational Therapists (OTs) do, and how can they help you or your loved ones?
👩⚕️ What Do Occupational Therapists Do?
Occupational Therapists are health professionals who help people participate in the activities that matter most - at home, at work, at school, and in the community. The word “occupation” refers not just to employment, but to all the meaningful tasks that fill our days: getting dressed, cooking, driving, gardening, or playing with our kids.
OTs assess how illness, injury, disability, or aging affects daily life and then develop personalized strategies, exercises, and environmental modifications to promote safety, comfort, and independence.
OTs work in hospitals, schools, long-term care facilities, and private practice - and many provide home visits across the region.
🧰 Working Together for Better Outcomes
At Harding Medical, we’re proud to collaborate with Occupational Therapists across the Maritimes. Together, we help clients access the mobility and accessibility equipment that supports each OT’s care plan - from power wheelchairs and home lifts to bath safety products and compression therapy.
OTs make independence possible - and we’re honoured to be part of that journey. 💙
