For over 38 years, Alternative Residences Alternatives (ARA) has been dedicated to providing alternative solutions to institutional options for individuals living with mental illness. Today, we are the largest organization in the Greater Moncton area that provides shelter/homes, services and amenities, promoting a greater sense of dignity and the opportunity to re-integrate successfully into the community. With the right housing and support from our dedicated mental health professionals and volunteers, people living with mental illness benefit from a caring compassionate setting, where they can experience an improved quality of life and greater independence.

At Alternative Residences Alternatives, we’re proud to recognize one of the people who helps keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

For the past 10 years, Martin has been a dependable and hardworking part of our team. From repairing and building to tackling the everyday challenges that come with maintaining our residences, he brings skill, dedication, and care to everything he does.

His hard work at our new Homestead location has made a real difference, helping ensure the space is safe, welcoming, and well cared for the people who will live and work there.

Beyond the tools and projects, he’s also known for being a genuinely great person; always willing to help, always reliable, and always showing up with a positive attitude.

Community Partnership Opportunity | Support Adults Living with Mental Illness

Alternative Residences Alternatives Inc. (ARA) is preparing to open Homestead Supportive Living on April 1st. As a nonprofit organization supporting adults living with mental illness through stable housing and community-based supports, we are seeking community and corporate partners to help us fully furnish the home.

We are currently accepting in-kind donations including furniture, household items, small appliances, linens, cleaning supplies, and gift cards.

This is an opportunity for local businesses and community members to make a tangible impact in creating safe, supportive living environments.

She donated 18 gift bags filled with essentials, treats, and handmade mittens, delivering one to each resident.
Our residents were thrilled!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Annual Tree Lighting Event on Thursday! ✹ The evening was filled with community spirit—from warm hot chocolate and cookies to outstanding live comedy and a beautiful tree lighting that truly kicked off the holiday season.

We’re grateful to our dedicated volunteers from Atlantic International Passport Rotary Club and to our team members who worked behind the scenes to make the event a memorable experience for all.

A special thank-you as well to our two incredible comedians, who took time out of their day to share their talent and bring so much laughter to the night. We truly appreciate you!ïżŒ

That’s why we remain committed to providing safe, supportive homes and compassionate care for adults living with mental illness in Greater Moncton.

We’re excited to announce that Chris Alade is stepping into the role of Community Support Coordinator at ARA!

Chris joined ARA in 2024 as a Residential Counsellor and has grown through several positions, bringing dedication, professionalism, and genuine care to every role. He continues to put residents at the centre of his work, building trust and supporting individuals with compassion and respect.

As he joins the management team, Chris will help strengthen our programs, support staff, and continue advancing ARA’s mission.

Who We Are

For over 36 years, Alternative Residences Alternatives (ARA) has been dedicated to providing alternative solutions to institutional options for individuals living with mental health challenges. Today, ARA is one of the largest organizations in the Greater Moncton area that provides housing, services and amenities by promoting a greater sense of dignity and while providing the opportunity for the clients to re-integrate successfully into the community.

ARA consists of four adult community residences that provides twenty-four-hour support to thirty-one clients. This includes a transition or teaching residence of eight clients, five shared accomodations for twenty-seven residents, and three affordable community appartment complexes with sixteen residents.

Our Mission: “To provide a continuum of community based housing and support services, with a recovery-oriented focus, providing individualized and client-centered services by working in collaboration with our partners in the addiction and mental health field.”

With the right housing and support from our dedicated mental health professionals and volunteers, people living with mental health challenges benefit from a caring compassionate setting, where they can experience an improved quality of life and greater independence.
