Should you test your hormones in perimenopause? It depends... I think there's a lot of confusing info out there about hormones and perimenopause, or hormones in general if I think about it.
Testing can provide really valuable data to work with if there are (test, don't guess, as the saying goes), but it will not diagnose perimenopause. The very nature of perimenopause is hormone fluctuation, where some months will look 'normal' and others will have lower hormone levels.
This doesn't mean that hormones cannot be supported during perimenopause. Quite the opposite, it's a time when we want to support hormone health through lifestyle, nutrition, supplements, and hormone replacement in certain cases.
For those who have a uterus, many tests are beneficial starting around age 40 to really get a good picture of health and start to think about any lifestyle changes that can be made to support health (short term and long term), including thyroid, lipids (cholesterol), blood sugar, insulin, among others. Prevention is always easier than reversing chronic disease.
