❕Yesterday, representatives from The L’Nuk Lounge attended a Liberal meet-and-greet with Susan Holt to address ongoing concerns regarding repeated enforcement actions and what they believe to be continued harassment by the Department of Justice and Public Safety… 🌿✊🔥
Also in attendance was Robert Gauvin, Minister of Justice and Public Safety. During the discussion, representatives spoke candidly about the mental, emotional, and spiritual toll that repeated raids and enforcement measures have had on shop owners, staff, and their families.
The L’Nuk delegation emphasized their position that they are operating on unceded land and under treaty-protected rights, and that they are seeking respectful dialogue and fair treatment moving forward.
They were supported by fellow shop owners from Nova Scotia who have experienced similar enforcement actions, reinforcing that these concerns extend beyond one province.
Chief Del Riley, author of The Last President, was present and personally gifted a copy of his book to Susan Holt.
They were also joined by Chris Googoo, a member of the Micmac Rights Association and a candidate in the upcoming Chief election, along with several members of the Micmac Rights Association who attended in support.
The meeting allowed for direct, face-to-face dialogue. While there is cautious optimism that progress was made, only time will tell whether the commitments discussed will translate into meaningful and lasting change.
We remain committed to respectful dialogue rooted in treaty rights, fairness, and the well-being of our community…
